Born and raised in Japan, MOTOKO is a celebrated artist living on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. Known for her vivid use of colour, textured and energetic surface treatment, her work is emblematic of a rich life of harmony and joy.

Rooted in Japanese concepts of jounetsu (情熱, passion), yasuragi (安らぎ, tranquility), iyashi (癒し, healing), and kokoro (心, heart/mind/spirit), Motoko’s work carries both intensity and calm—an expressive energy shaped by a deeply intentional inner life. These qualities are not just present in her paintings, but live as guiding forces for creativity, connection, and work that offers a sense of restoration and peace.

There’s something about a Carole Arnston floral that feels like a conversation between lovers.

In Loosing Petals 2 (20 x 24, oil on canvas), petals soften and fall into one another in a wash of crimson, blush, and shadow. It’s expressive, slightly undone, and undeniably intimate - archetypal of Arnston’s unique ability to capture the feeling of a moment rather than just the form of a flower.

In Warmth at Edge (20 x 20, oil on canvas), light gathers at the borders of white blooms, with touches of peach and green emerging through layered, sculptural brushwork. It’s luminous, ephemeral and romantic.

Carole Arnston’s romantic florals evole a realism not in depiction but in the beautiful tension between fragility, beauty and gesture — like love itself.

If you are looking for a meaningful gift for someone you cherish this Valentine’s Day — something lasting, personal, and resonant — we invite you to call the gallery to arrange a private viewing. Experience these works and others in the quiet of the home gallery space.

There is a particular kind of quiet in the work of Richard Cole.

Known for atmospheric landscapes that breathe with the misty West Coast cadence, Cole’s work is a captivating experience of the artist’s embodied presence and witness of nature’s quiet fortitude.

𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙨 draws us into a liminal space where mists lie over the forest, both detailed and dissolving, rising from the canopy.

In 𝙒𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙬𝙚𝙥𝙩, the coastal horizon stretches as grasses bend in rhythm with an unseen force, while the sky presses in over the water, creating an atmosphere that almost begs the viewer to take a deep breath.

𝘼𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙩 is the picture of serenity and solitude; a single boat resting in stillness, held between reflection and fog that speaks to a meditative moment’s pause.

Originally from Alberta and now living and working in Fort Langley, Richard Cole’s breathtaking landscapes denote an embodied presence just beyond the canvas.

On view now at Van Dop Gallery.
