We offer art classes and workshops for adults and teens in the fall and winter, and art camps during spring and summer breaks for children. Our popular Family Sundays offer visitors the chance to get creative with guided hands-on art activities. The Art Lab is a community space that offers a variety of self-guided art activities for visitors to explore. We are dedicated to providing meaningful access and services to ensure our gallery and programs are as accessible and barrier-free as possible. The Gallery hosts a number of events throughout the year, including artist’s talks, film screenings, fundraisers, community projects, and other special events. We partner with organizations like Kelowna Pride to provide a welcoming space to host their important community events. Our Permanent Collection houses nearly 1,000 works of art, which can be seen through periodic exhibitions that draw work from the collection. The Kelowna Art Gallery is a registered non-profit society ( -12999).

A few spaces remain for this 2-day workshop where participants paint en plein air together. Open to painters of any level, including beginners who are simply curious about how to get started.

Responding to the Landscape
September 12 and 13 | 9 am to 2 pm
Cost: $150 (Members: $127.50) Supplies not included.

Students will learn how to translate the overwhelming visual information of a landscape into shape, proportion, mood, and light.

Happy Birthday to Joyce Frances Devlin (1932-2025).

Today, we remember this Canadian artist by sharing "Old Orchard, Coldstream" from the Gallery’s art collection.

An esteemed painter, Devlin lived and worked in the Ottawa region for over five decades. Long before this though, she spent time in Vernon, BC, where she studied with renowned art instructor Miss Jessie Topham Brown, before attending the Vancouver School of Art in 1954.

In "Old Orchard, Coldstream" Devlin captures a quieter, more atmospheric landscape rather than presenting the orchard as simply bright and idyllic. She fills it with rich tones, shadows, and ghostly strokes of colour right in the foreground. It lends to a sense of mystery and feeling that this tract of land must hold stories and memories within.

The Ponderosa Fibre Arts Spinners were in the house today 🧶

Visitors were treated to a demonstration of this ancient art form. From spinning raw wool harvested directly from one of the participant's own sheep to weaving a finished textile piece, it was a fascinating look at this skilled practice.

Plus, the tools involved are so strange and cool. The spinning wheels are beautiful, but the wool combs still look like some kind of torture device from the middle ages.

This (and future) demonstrations are open to the public to attend. Free with Gallery Admission (always free for Members).

These events are held in conjunction with 'Skillful: Lou Lynn, Jane Kidd, Greg Payce.'

"A tapestry is like a hundred small compositions, and each one is fascinating," says artist Jane Kidd.

A close up look at each of her weavings in "Skillful" reveals just how true (and understated) this is. Kidd's attention to every strand, each fibre, and the unfolding compositions within compositions, is breathtaking.

We're sharing just a few details here in this post, but viewers can slow down and pay closer attention to each one during a visit.

"You're focused on one small area," muses Jane Kidd about the slow craft and mastery required to create her intricate tapestries.

Jane Kidd was awarded the Governor General's Saidye Bronfman Award in 2016 for her contribution to fine craft. Her tapestries are held in collections including the Canada Council Art Bank and the Canadian Museum of History.

"People don't always see the Inuit people that are here now," Tarralik Duffy says. "The ones buying a pop can at the store."

Duffy doesn't begin the conversation by talking about tradition or history. She talks about stopping for snacks. This in-depth interview with Tarralik Duffy by Mide Coker ar Okanagan Echo is essential reading for anyone who has seen "Sugar Rush" or anyone who is thinking about it.

It's World Photography Day.

A great photograph does more than capture a moment, it preserves a story, a place, and a slice of life that might otherwise disappear.

Today we’re celebrating the art of photography with "Granville/Robson 1959" by renowned Canadian photographer Fred Herzog from our art collection.

Herzog became known for his vivid colour photographs that documented the streets of Vancouver from the 1950s onward. In Granville/Robson 1959, we’re invited to step back in time and experience Downtown Vancouver as it was: rainy streets, trolleys, marquee signs, and the heartbeat of everyday life.

What's changed? What remains the same?

Art isn't there to be solved. It's there to be experienced and everyone's experience is completely their own (including yours).
