Ian Varney

Locations near water have always attracted Ian. His lakefront home and Studio on Soyers lake, in the Haliburton Highlands, provides an abundance of inspiration. The ocean, and coastline views also feature prominently in his paintings, and recall his years living in Australia, where he eventually became a citizen. His art frequently abstracts these various shoreline views. In the current body of work Ian seeks to represent the landscape by employing a variety of techniques and surfaces (canvas, birch panels and Claybord). The use of line, in various forms, is an integral part of the work. Squiggles, straight line, dragged paint are all employed to represent the landscape which he loves so much.

We are part of the Huntsville Art Crawl featuring local artists Sylvia Kerschl & Helena Renwick
The Huntsville ART CRAWL is a free self-guided art tour in and around downtown Huntsville, Muskoka. Throughout the summer, visitors will create their own free art crawl experience by touring local businesses, galleries and studios which feature exhibits, demos and interactive experiences by local artists. This year’s crawl will feature many special events, including mural painting and tours, Walkabout Wednesday Gallery Tours, a celebration of National Indigenous Peoples’ Day and more.

As an animal-loving artist, Leslie's work is a celebration of the natural world and the beauty that surrounds her. Leslie's paintings express her deep appreciation for the unique personalities and characteristics of animals. Leslie enjoys creating paintings that are closely cropped to her subject, inviting the viewer to come in close and experience the animal's world through its eyes. By focusing on the details of their physical features and expressions, she aims to create a sense of connection and kinship between the viewer and the animal. To Leslie, nothing is more fascinating than the landscape of an animal's face. Through her work, she hopes to convey her belief in the significance of protecting, preserving and loving the natural world around us.

Liz Derksen lives in Huntsville, Ontario, and loves to paint in acrylic. Her inspiration comes from the beauty that she sees while hiking or snowshoeing. The beauty in the way the light strikes a tree, or hits the lake, or the way the clouds move. Beauty she sees in the colours of the forest; in mountains and rocks, and the old tired trees. Liz admits that she is in love with trees. She loves to touch them, sketch them and paint them, and also will admit to an obsession with tree bark.
Her hope is that her paintings speak to you. That you are able to share the beauty she sees, and enjoy it through her eyes. If Liz’s paintings touch you in some way or make you smile, she is happy.

'I Get a Kick Out Of You'

Miriam Slan is an acrylic painter who celebrates her inspiration for both landscape and gardens with an unabashed love of colour. She captures her reaction to the world around her with adventurous and contemporary freedom, exploring seasonal colour variations, textures, abstract patterns and reflections. She focuses on gestural brushstrokes, bold colours and strong value contrasts to achieve her results.
