Create your own ocean inspired art using shells and natural ocean materials. Explore how creativity connects us to the sea and how love for nature can inspire us to protect it!

In addition, learn how scuba gear gets used in real life situations and ocean research, and discover how we can protect our oceans from harmful waste. Throughout the day you will also see appearances from our very own shark mascot, followed by a presentation and game about sharks in our waters!🦈

Join Beaty Centre for Marine Biodiversity on June 4 for a cozy movie night, featuring ‘The Last of the Right Whales’, a powerful documentary following the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale.🎬🍿

With fewer than 400 individuals remaining, these whales face threats from ship strikes, fishing gear entanglement, and changing ocean conditions. Learn about the researchers, rescue efforts, and communities working to protect one of the world’s rarest whales.

We’re also excited to welcome featured panelist Dr. Sean Brillant, whose work focuses on North Atlantic right whale conservation.

Bring your blanket, favourite hoodie, or whatever makes you comfortable. Chairs will be provided, and snacks are included!🩵

Movie Night is included with admission to Beaty Centre. Spots are limited to 50 visitors, so be sure to book in advance through the link in our bio.

Kick off Ocean Week Halifax at Beaty Centre for Marine Biodiversity with a weekend packed full of ocean adventure! 🌊🏄🏽‍♀️

Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes in our aquaria space? On Saturday May 30th, Meet the incredible Dalhousie Aquatron animal care team from 10am – 2pm and discover how they care for the amazing marine species in our Centre.

Catch our shark presentations throughout the day and say hello to our shark mascot! 🦈

On Sunday, May 31st, join us for a surf-inspired experience from 10am to 12 pm where you’ll learn beginner techniques and the environmental impacts of surfing led by NASA Surf. Get creative by decorating your own paper surfboard, then put it to the test in a fun, interactive activity! 🏄🏽‍♀️
