Check out this great ship model of HMCS RESTIGOUCHE from the Naval Museum of Halifax collection. During our big move out for the renovations on Admiralty House this ship model accidently took a tumble. Thanks to one of our volunteers, Murray Austin, he was able to repair the model and put it on display at his Legion while the museum is closed. We at the museum are always so grateful for the endless love and support that our volunteers give us. Thank you so much Murray!

Découvrez ce superbe modèle de navire du NCSM RESTIGOUCHE provenant de la collection du Musée naval d'Halifax. Lors de notre grand déménagement pour les rénovations Maison de l'Amirauté, ce modèle de navire a accidentellement fait une chute. Grâce à l'un de nos bénévoles, Murray Austin, il a pu réparer le modèle et l'exposer dans sa Légion pendant que le musée est fermé. Nous, au musée, sommes toujours très reconnaissants pour l'amour et le soutien sans fin que nos bénévoles nous apportent. Merci beaucoup, Murray !

This month, which is women’s history month, we want to celebrate the Canadian women who have served within the Royal Canadian Navy as we recognize their history and achievements.

En ce mois consacré à l’histoire des femmes, nous tenons à rendre hommage aux Canadiennes qui ont servi au sein de la Marine royale canadienne, tout en saluant leur histoire et leurs réalisations.

that these are the last examples of Georgian plasterwork within old Admiralty House ( home of the Naval Museum of Halifax)?  On December 6th, 1917, The SS Mont Blanc carrying am******on collided with the SS Emo in the Halifax Harbour. This collision ignited the SS Mont-Blanc’s cargo causing the largest man-made explosion prior to the atomic bomb.  The shockwave from this explosion shook Admiralty House so violently that it caused the majority of the plasterwork within the home to fall. Despite the severe damage to the house the plasterwork on the main floor remained intact being the last examples of Georgian plasterwork within the home.  

 Saviez-vous que ce sont les derniers exemples de plaque géorgienne à l'intérieur de la maison ? Le 6 décembre 1917, le SS Mont Blanc, transportant des mu*****ns pour la guerre, entra en collision avec le SS Emo dans le port d'Halifax. Cette collision enflamma la cargaison du SS Mont-Blanc, provoquant la plus grande explosion humaine avant la bombe atomique.  L'onde de choc de cette explosion secoua Maison de l'Amirauté si violemment qu'elle fit tomber la majorité des plâtres à l'intérieur de la maison. Malgré les graves dégâts subis à la maison, les enduitages du rez-de-chaussée restèrent intacts, étant les derniers exemples de travaux de plâtre géorgien à l'intérieur de la maison.

that the Halifax dockyard was first established in 1759? From its inception, generations of Canadians have worked in the Halifax Dockyard building a community round the Navy. These two ID badges from the museum collection are from two unknown civilian workers. We often wonder who they are, what was their job was and what became of them.   Like in the past, the civilian dockyard workers of today are an integral part of operations.

  . l’arsenal d’Halifax a été fondé en 1759? Depuis sa création, des générations de Canadiens ont travaillé dans le cimetière Halifax Chantier naval, construisant une communauté autour de la Marine. Ces deux badges d'identification de la collection du musée proviennent de deux travailleurs civils inconnus. Nous nous demandons souvent qui ils sont, quel était leur métier et ce qu'ils sont devenus. Comme par le passé, les ouvriers civils du chantier naval d'aujourd'hui font partie intégrante des opérations navales.
