Sensory Sunday returns to Dynamic Earth on June 7!
If large crowds, bright lights, or loud noises make a regular visit challenging, this dedicated day offers a calmer, more relaxed environment to explore at your own pace.

What to expect during your visit:
✅ Underground Tours: enjoy a modified, slower-paced tour with softened lighting. The loud explosion and other heavy sound effects are turned way down. For any sounds that can't be adjusted, our Bluecoat guides will give you a clear heads-up beforehand.
✅ The Epiroc Theatre: pre-shows and loud trailers are turned off. We will be screening Planting Hope with the volume lowered and the house lights dimmed rather than completely dark.
✅ Nickel City Stories: theatre doors will remain open for extra ambient light, and the overall audio volume is reduced.
✅ Lapidary Lab: the lab remains open for hands-on activities, but because equipment can be noisy, the doors will stay closed and warning signs will be posted so you can decide before entering.
✅ Quiet Zones: dedicated sensory break spaces are available throughout the building whenever you or your family need a moment to recharge.

June is a time for reflection, learning, and celebration. 🧡🏳️‍🌈

We’ve updated our logo for the month in recognition of National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month—two powerful reminders of identity, resilience, and community.

The design features two feathers that honour both Indigenous cultures and Pride, symbolizing unity, science, and the path forward. It was created in collaboration with Patrick Hunter, a 2Spirit, Ojibwe artist and graphic designer from Red Lake.

We invite you to join us in celebrating the deep histories and ongoing contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities—and to walk alongside 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in support, respect, and joy.

Let’s continue learning, growing, and building a more inclusive future together.

Celebrate with us on June 21 (10 am to 4 pm):
📍Science North
✅ Indigenous vendors
✅ Knowledge-sharing workshops running throughout the day
✅ Special menu at Elements
✅ FREE planetarium show - Under the Same Stars: Minwaadiziwin at 1:30pm

📍Dynamic Earth
✅ Plating Hope screening in Anishinaabemowin

Reminder: FREE general admission is always available to self-identified Indigenous Peoples.

Space needs space! 🌌

Ryan Gosling is right. And honestly, he’s never looked better than on a massive IMAX screen. Hear from Ryan himself about why Project Hail Mary was built for the biggest screen possible.

🚨 CRITICAL MISSION UPDATE:
As we're posting this, we are down to fewer than 30 tickets left for each screening this Saturday, May 30 (5 pm & 8 pm). If you want to experience those expanded IMAX scenes and our limited-edition snack combos, you need to act right now.

🎟️ Secure the final seats before they vanish into deep space!

Maple is officially logging some outdoor hours! 🌲

When she's constantly sniffing the air like this, she’s putting her strongest sense to work. Porcupines have poor eyesight, so they rely on an incredible sense of smell to explore and navigate their surroundings.

Is her habitat empty inside during your visit? She is probably on a walk with her Bluecoat! Spot them on the grounds to join them in the sunshine. ☀️

Are you spending as much time in nature this week as our favourite resident porcupine?

Something massive is arriving at Science North this summer! ☀️

Opening June 19, Earth Works: Where Art Meets Action is an immersive new exhibition that brings together art, creativity, and environmental action in unforgettable ways. Produced by Science North, this experience is part art gallery, part interactive adventure, designed to challenge how we think about waste and our impact on the planet. 🌎🎨

Prepare to be inspired by the incredible work of Canadian artist and activist Benjamin Von Wong, whose breathtaking large-scale installations transform discarded materials into powerful works of art that spark conversation and inspire change.

We’ll be rolling out more stories behind each artwork over the coming months, so stay tuned as the exhibit continues to take shape! 👀

Entry is included with your admission.

Looking for the perfect outdoor weekend plans? The Outdoor Science Park next to the Big Nickel is officially open for the season this Saturday, May 23! ☀️

If you haven't been out here yet, or if you're ready for another round, this is Ontario’s only outdoor space dedicated to giant-sized science. It’s one thing to read about geology and mining physics, but it’s completely different when you get to experience it firsthand.

Come climb inside massive mining machinery, experiment with seismic waves, and explore the science of the North right under the sun.

The Outdoor Science Park is fully included with your admission to Dynamic Earth!

Today is International Day for Biodiversity 🌿

To celebrate, we’re inviting you to join a special iNaturalist project running until May 31. This year’s theme is Acting Locally for Global Impact, and you can participate right from your backyard, neighbourhood, or favourite trail.

Every photo you upload of a wild plant, insect, bird, or fungus becomes real data that scientists and decision-makers use to monitor ecosystem health and help protect species around the world.

How to join:
✅ Open the iNaturalist app (or log in on the website using the same account).
✅ Join our International Day for Biodiversity project.
✅ Head outside, snap photos of wild living things, and upload them.

You don’t need to be an expert to participate. The app’s community and built-in tools can help identify what you find. Your observations become part of a global snapshot of biodiversity!

Want to learn more about what you spotted? Bring your phone and show your photos to our Bluecoats at the Nature Exchange! They'll help you dive into the science behind your discoveries, and you can trade your observations for points.

The biggest snowflake in Sudbury is looking a little different now, right? That’s because we are replacing windows at Science North! 😉❄️

Due to our unique architecture, many of the 500+ windows across our facility are custom-shaped. This project replaces aging glazing with modern high-efficiency glass designed to improve thermal performance and help better regulate indoor temperatures throughout the year.

In addition to renewing a key part of our facility, the upgrade supports Science North’s broader sustainability and energy efficiency goals as part of our long-term Net Zero Carbon Plan.
