Feel free to spread the word…

Today and Tomorrow 10-4 (May 20-21)

The Museum is calling for community volunteers to support its opening on June 8 by assisting with preparatory tasks today and tomorrow. Volunteers can contribute between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM on either day, undertaking duties such as dusting, cleaning display cases, and attending to exhibit details. We appreciate any amount of time donated. Upon arrival, please seek out MJ or Robyn, who will likely be located in the lecture hall downstairs, or somewhere in the building, for direction on how you can assist. Your support is invaluable to our organization, and we rely heavily on volunteers to maintain our operations.

Our September talk with Jim Wilson is about the work done at the Point Lepreau Bird Observatory. This will be a great opportunity to learn about the valuable work they do there.

✨ Today was a Record-breaking Loon Day! ✨

With a significant number of loons on the move, our morning counter Todd Watts choose to stay into the afternoon with hopes of documenting a big movement.

At noon, Paul Martin (our afternoon counter), Todd Watts, and volunteers Jan and Ray Riddell began the count.

Loon movement soon became heavy with constant movement of loons that didn’t slow down till just after 3pm. Flocks appeared throughout the viewscape, with the exception of far behind the building.

At the end of the day, 4228 loons had been counted. This appears to represent the largest single day movement of loons ever recorded at the point.

Great job to our official counters and volunteers!
