We only have a few vendor tables left for the Fall Niagara Model Railway Show. We are looking forward to a great day. October 25th, 10am-230pm at the Merritton Community Centre in St Catharines.

Our 2026 regular season has now come to a close. However, we do still have a few things happening in the off season. While we are not fully open, visitors can always stop by on a saturday, but not everything will be open/on display. Our next big event is the Fall Niagara Model Railway Show on October 25th in St Catharines.

We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who visited in 2026. We appreciate all your support. Our volunteers have worked hard to make progress this season, and we look forward to continue that during the off season. We plan on quite a few changes as we head into our 30th anniversary in 2027. We will have more information soon on what you can expect to see when you visit.

This Saturday, October 3rd, is the last official open day of our 2026 season. Weather permitting, we will have both diesels, NRM 30, and NSCX 11 outside on display. Inside we'll be working on the HO layout. We're only 5min from the QEW, just look for our new road signs, made possible thanks to Jay Collier and Fort Erie Rona.

On Wednesday, Oct 7th, we will be taking part in the 2nd annual volunteer fair, this year being held at the Stevensville Memorial Hall, 2508 Stevensville Rd in Stevensville from 5-7pm. This event is a partnership with the Fort Erie Job Gym, Town of Fort Erie and Downtown Stevensville. Stop by and see the many volunteer opportunities in the area.

Space is also filling up fast for the Fall Niagara Model Railway Show on October 25th at the Merritton Community Centre in St. Catharines. Have some model trains or railway items to sell? Reach out to us to book a table.

Having some free time today, Ken was out at the shop working on the HO layout. Its slowly coming along, with 1 main line about 75% wired. We missed joining a few tracks together in the hidden staging yard, but that can now be done next weekend. The video shows thebtrain running from the (missing) bridge, down into the tunnel. Not a big thing, but we're re getting closer to running around the entire layout. With the back section out, the backdrop will also be adjusted.

Mike and Ken spent the first part of today switching equipment around to get things ready for off season work. NRM 30 was moved from the middle track to the south track so a new adapter can be sized up to connect to the european coupler on the steam engines. Jay brought out the final 2 new signs he made, and they all look great. While we have them out already, they will definitely be more noticeable next season. Bill was painting the white CP multimark and lettering on 57974, and hopefully, if the weather cooperates in October, we'll have a coat of red on the car. Roof work on the Flanger will also happen in the off season. Ken was doing some cleaning and dealing with visitors. Once the equipment move was done, Ken and mike continued working on the layout. They succeeded in running a train on almost 3/4 of one main line, which is a big step. Still some fine tuning to do in that section, but any progress is good. Next Saturday is the final regular day for the 2026 season.

Our 2026 season is starting to wind down. We have 2 Saturdays left (officially, although we don't turn visitors away). This saturday we'll be moving some equipment around to get ready for off season repairs and restoration. Our time at the shop is coming to a close, but we are now 1 month away from the Fall Niagara Model Railway Show in St Catharines at the Merritton Community Centre on October 25th.

When the GE arrived in November 2015, donated by Oxyvinyls in Port Robinson, it was painted yellow, with the former green paint showing through. It was slated for disposal as they were replacing it with a Whiting Trackmobile. Thankfully, it was offered to us, thus escaping the torch. The locomotive had some work done over the years, removing the large air filter, and cutting off extra brackets and such that were not needed. More recently was body work and cab repairs done by Allan and Rob, and over the last few months, paint removal by Nelly and Bob. In addition to the paint, damaged glass was replaced (both doors, 3 of 4 sliding windows, one cab side and 2 rear windows). During that time we talked over different ideas on what the scheme should look like. There were different colour options, but we kept coming back to blue, grey and white. All that turned out to be a variation of the Wabash scheme, which is fitting as the Canadian F units were maintained in the Fort Erie shop. The end result is something we are very proud of, and as has been mentioned, Bob did a great job. So here are a few more pics from this past weekend.

Thankyou to everyone who came out for our RailDays event at the shop. We had great weather for the weekend, and even our night photo shoot on Saturday night went well. Our volunteers worked very hard to make this weekend happen. Having various pieces of equipment in fresh paint, definitely made a difference. And of course the work that Bob did on the 25tonner was well received and the locomotive turned out great.
So for an explanation, the final paint scheme was something that was worked out over quite a while. Different schemes were drawn up, and felt blue and gray was good. Then the white was added, and we ended up making a variation on the old Wabash Railway. We didn't want it to be 100% Wabash, so we changed a few things. It is still fitting as our shop was joint maintenance facility for both CN and Wabash, with the Canadian fleet worked on in Fort Erie. It's a nice throwback to when the Wabash ran across Southern Ontario from border to border. As for the number, a lot of work happening is in preparation for our 30th anniversary in 2027, so it was decided to number the engine 30 for that milestone.
Overall, it was a decent weekend. attendance was down from previous years, but we came away from the event with a lot of positive comments, and some new ideas. There are some display changes coming over the off season. We are really pushing to have the boxcars and the cab of CN 9173 painted this year. The other project is to finish the roof on CN Flanger 56323.
For now, we'll leave it with some pictures from the weekend. Thankyou again to everyone who joined us, and definitely to all of our very hard working volunteers who put in a lot of hours not only over the weekend, but every other day they're out there.
We are still open Saturdays until October 3rd, 10am to 2pm.
