Meet the Artist | Stephanie Lane

We're excited to welcome abstract artist Stephanie Lane to Bay 1 Gallery.

Working from Central Alberta, Stephanie creates richly layered paintings in oil and cold wax inspired by weathered walls, natural stone, shifting landscapes, and the quiet beauty found in age and decay. Her intuitive process invites viewers to slow down and connect with the atmosphere and emotion within each piece.

Discover Stephanie's work in the gallery this summer as a part of our summer collection: Common Ground 2026

Work Shown:
Sacred Roads, oil and cold wax on gallery profile birch panel, 36” x 48”.
Misty Island, oil and cold wax on canvas, 24” x 20”.

A lot of this work really changes when you’re standing in front of it - the surface, layering and light don’t quite translate the same way online.

Take some time to see the work in person. Exhibited through June 7.

Gallery hours are 11–4,and 9–12 on Fridays, and closed weekends. If you’d like to visit outside those hours, call ahead and we’ll do our best to make it work.

‘Hidden gem’ is something we hear often, and we are grateful you feel that way. We’re pretty fond of the work that lives here.

Come by and spend some time with our current collection.

The Seed Paintings
New work by Jim Macgregor
Opening May 22 & 23

In this body of work, Macgregor reaches a pivotal point in his practice, shaped by decades of looking inward and learning to trust his process. Moving away from control, the paintings are less constructed and more allowed—closing the gap between thought and hand. The “seeds” emerge from this place: forms shaped by life’s influence, carried and transformed over time, now recognized and translated into a visual language—at times even legible.

Openings:
Fri, May 22, 7–9 pm — artist present, live music by Kim Gates, Bay 1 bar + treats
Sat, May 23, 2–4 pm — artist present, quieter reception

We hope you’ll join us! RSVP appreciated, but walk in’s welcome.
