New Arrivals in the Gift Shop

These new wind-up swimming bath toys from Rex London are making a big splash in the Museum Gift Shop this month! Continuing the beach theme, we also have decorative wood houses, and locally-made fabric door stoppers with various prints.

So come in and check out the new arrivals before they’re gone, and celebrate the sunshine as the summer approaches.

Last Chance - Hope Meets Action
Closing May 23, 2026

Hope Meets Action: Echoes Through the Black Continuum, a travelling exhibit created by the BC Black History Awareness Society in partnership with the Royal BC Museum, will be moving on to its next venue soon. The last day to see it here is Saturday, May 23, 2026.

If you haven’t visited yet, plan to drop in to our second-floor gallery and explore the complicated history of Black British Columbians. This exhibit traces an unbroken line of strength and resistance from the distant past to the present and into the future by highlighting the contributions of Black leaders whose actions echo across the centuries.

Now Streaming: Watch the Vaux’s Swifts Live

Watch our 24-hour Vaux’s swifts livestream on YouTube to view the birds as they enter and exit the museum chimney. Tune in around sunrise and sunset for their departure and return, and scrub through the previous 12 hours for any sightings you might have missed.

This year we have upgraded the cameras and back end infrastructure thanks to ACS Computer Solutions and Mayor Bob Wells. Museum staff will be recording and compiling a highlight reel that will later be uploaded to the Courtenay Museum YouTube channel.

Lecture: Source Encounters in the Comox Lake Watershed
Tuesday, May 26, @ 7:00 pm

Source Encounters explores the geological origins of Vancouver Island, prehistoric oceans and ice ages, indigenous, colonial and settler presence on the landscape, land ownership complexities, and the climate change, human impacts, and environmental issues our watershed faces today. Through powerful images and compelling stories, Source Encounters is all about building knowledge, encouraging dynamic conversations, and inspiring action to help ensure a healthy, climate resilient watershed for future generations.

Presenter: Meaghan Cursons. Meaghan a fiery community connector with a passion for storytelling. In her 30 years in the Comox Valley she has worked as a nonprofit leader and board member across environmental, heritage, economic development, culture, tourism, and education sectors. She is the executive director of the Cumberland Community Forest Society, a watershed protection educator for the Comox Valley Regional District, vice chair of the Comox Valley Art Gallery, and an in-demand collaborator, public speaker, facilitator and event producer who brings people together to celebrate culture, community and the natural environment.
