Congratulations to SDG Tourism, Cornwall Tourism, and the SDG Historical Society on the launch of the new Cornwall and SDG regional heritage map!

Highlighting 33 heritage sites, museums, archives, societies and halls of fame across Cornwall, SDG and Akwesasne, the new resource will help visitors connect the stories and places that have shaped this part of South Eastern Ontario.

It’s also a great example of regional collaboration in action. By bringing tourism and heritage partners together around a shared opportunity, the project makes it easier for visitors to explore beyond a single attraction, discover more of the region, and connect with its history.

After a summer full of fun events, yesterday we officially celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Cornwall Community Museum! 70 years ago, on September 15th 1956, our journey began. In attendance were members of the SDG Historical Society as well as several local dignitaries, who shared positive messages about the past, present, and future of our organization. We then held a commemorative ribbon cutting ceremony followed by some cake! A massive THANK YOU goes out to everyone. Your continued support means a great deal and it really is thanks to you that we continue to proudly serve the community of Cornwall and SDG. Cheers to 70 years, and to another 70 years yet to come!

Après un été riche en activités divertissantes, nous avons officiellement célébré hier le 70e anniversaire du Musée Communautaire de Cornwall ! Notre aventure a débuté il y a 70 ans, le 15 septembre 1956. Des membres de la Société Historique de SDG ainsi que plusieurs dignitaires locaux étaient présents pour partager des messages positifs concernant le passé, le présent et l'avenir de notre organisation. Nous avons ensuite procédé à la cérémonie de coupure du ruban commémoratif, suivie d'une dégustation de gâteau ! Un immense MERCI à toutes et à tous. Votre soutien constant nous est précieux ; c'est véritablement grâce à vous que nous continuons à servir avec fierté la communauté de Cornwall et de SDG. À ces 70 années écoulées, et aux 70 autres à venir !

Last Sunday, Lamoureux Park west of the Museum was bursting with energy as people of all ages gathered to build and fly kites of every shape and size! As part of the Society’s Anniversary celebrations, dozens of kites filled the sky, bringing smiles, laughter, and plenty of excitement to everyone watching. Of course, with a little wind and a few calm spells, there were also a few dramatic kite crashes to keep things entertaining!

A huge thank you to Society member Elaine MacDonald and her super-organized committee for putting on such a fantastic event. What a great way to celebrate!

It is hard to believe that our new website is already one year old!

Officially launched on April 30th, 2025, we continue to add new features on a regular basis.

Some new or updated features worth checking out:
- We've launched a library search tool through which you can browse what books we have in our collection (still working on the search by category filter)
- We continue to post upcoming events to the events calendar, so check it frequently
- We have added 40+ blog posts on local history and continue to add more on a weekly basis
- We periodically update our permanent and temporary exhibits
- We manage an online store through which you can register for certain events and/or purchase t-shirts, mugs, books, historic prints, and more...

In addition, our website features a member's area with more features that can be accessed by members of the SDG Historical Society - https://cornwallcommunitymuseum.com/about-the-sdg-historical-society/ become a member today!

Last but not least, we are constantly striving to digitize our collection and make more of it available online, though this takes time.

We will be sure to keep you updated as more becomes available! In the meantime, we hope that you will enjoy all the features that are currently offered.
