The Cornwall Community Museum and Archives is operated by the Stormont, Dundas, & Glengarry Historical Society with generous support from the City of Cornwall. We are devoted to preserving and protecting all aspects of the Cornwall and SD&G Counties heritage and history. Last Sunday, Lamoureux Park west of the Museum was bursting with energy as people of all ages gathered to build and fly kites of every shape and size! As part of the Societyโ€™s Anniversary celebrations, dozens of kites filled the sky, bringing smiles, laughter, and plenty of excitement to everyone watching. Of course, with a little wind and a few calm spells, there were also a few dramatic kite crashes to keep things entertaining!

A huge thank you to Society member Elaine MacDonald and her super-organized committee for putting on such a fantastic event. What a great way to celebrate!

It is hard to believe that our new website is already one year old!

Officially launched on April 30th, 2025, we continue to add new features on a regular basis.

Some new or updated features worth checking out:
- We've launched a library search tool through which you can browse what books we have in our collection (still working on the search by category filter)
- We continue to post upcoming events to the events calendar, so check it frequently
- We have added 40+ blog posts on local history and continue to add more on a weekly basis
- We periodically update our permanent and temporary exhibits
- We manage an online store through which you can register for certain events and/or purchase t-shirts, mugs, books, historic prints, and more...

In addition, our website features a member's area with more features that can be accessed by members of the SDG Historical Society - https://cornwallcommunitymuseum.com/about-the-sdg-historical-society/ become a member today!

Last but not least, we are constantly striving to digitize our collection and make more of it available online, though this takes time.

We will be sure to keep you updated as more becomes available! In the meantime, we hope that you will enjoy all the features that are currently offered.

The Museum Goes Kite Flying!

Ready to reach new heights? On Sunday, July 12, the Cornwall Community Museum invites you to an unforgettable day of kite building, flying, and family funโ€”all part of our spectacular 70th Anniversary celebrations!

Join us from 11am to 2pm for a hands-on kite building adventure. We'll provide all the materials and instructions you need to craft your very own high-flying creation, or bring your favorite kite from home and see how it measures up against our homemade masterpieces!

Simply register when you arrive at the Museum on Sundayโ€”it's that easy! Pack a picnic basket, gather the whole family, and make a day of it. Build your kites together, then watch them dance across the sky in the lower park area just west of the Museum. The hill beside the Museum offers the perfect vantage point for picnicking while you enjoy the colorful spectacle above.

It's going to be a beautiful day of creativity, community, and celebration. Don't miss out!

Last Saturday, June 27, the Museum hosted a group of talented artists from Focus Art for a special Plein Air day! They set up their easels on our lawns and captured the beauty of our historic building in their own unique stylesโ€”from vibrant oil paints to delicate pen & ink, to bold crayon strokes.
The results? Absolutely stunning! โœจ

This Saturday, July 4, these artists will be showcasing their finished works INSIDE the Museum. Come see our beloved Wood House reimagined through the creative vision of our local art community.
It's a rare chance to view the Museum from fresh perspectives and celebrate the intersection of art and heritage. Many thanks to artist Pierre Giroux for leading this event. Huge thanks to the artists from Focus Art who brought our Museum to life in their art.
