Ross Museum is operated by The Whitewater Historical Society with collections in five buildings. St.

The exhibit hall includes a general store, school, barber shop, dress-maker's shop, military and railroad memorabilia. There is a beautiful community garden where you can spend some quiet time or have a family picnic over-looking the stream. The resource centre includes a Whitewater Region family history library and genealogical aids for the historian. The Ross House is a fully restored pioneer log home depicting life in the mid-to-late 1800's. The Drive Shed houses agricultural, logging and blacksmith displays and implements. Aidan's Church was carefully restored by volunteers, and is available for family events, including weddings.

The mural in Cobden is located on the side of the Cobden Agricultural Hall. Do you know what the buildings are? Did you notice the race track in the photo of the fairgrounds?

Six murals were erected in Whitewater Region in the summer of 2009. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at Ross Museum. Have you looked at the murals and can you name where exactly all 6 are located?

One of our recent accessions was a length of steel barbed wire that was found on the farm of Ross Township pioneer descendant Thomas Patterson Haley & his wife Agnes Johnston, by their grandson Elmor. The barbed wire dates to c1881 but we don't know when it was used on the farm.
I'm not up on my barbed wire and this was a bit of a surprise as to the thickness and the type of barb.

While visiting our newest addition to Ross Museum -
a drive shed, I found our builder Beatty Pilgrim. The shed is just getting its finishing touches and will house the snow roller.

Whitewater Historical Society has received this accession - a digitial copy of a photograph of Lester & Ida May Jack (nee McLaughlin) from their granddaughter Karen Ferguson. Many of you may have had a haircut by Lester Jack, who was a barber in Forester's Falls for many years. The barbershop booth in the Exhibit Hall has a number of artefacts from Lester's barbershop and our students posted a videoclip of the booth a couple years ago.
We are always happy to receive digital copies (or photos themselves) of Whitewater Region personalities; businesses, farms, landscape, etc.

Whitewater Historical Society received this accession over the summer. It is a charcoal portrait of Pte. George Alexander Murdock (1897-1917), son of John Campbell Murdock and Margaret Harriett Moore of Ross Township. Pte. Murdock was killed at Avion, France in WWI.
In the photo, volunteer curator Sandra Buttle is presented with the portrait by donor Dorothy Anderson of Bancroft. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to add this beautiful portrait to Ross Museum’s collections and to preserve this part of Whitewater Region’s history.
