Which do you prefer - before (left) or after (right)?
Have you ever heard of “Strike Fired” Pottery? I often use this additional low temperature firing technique, done after the pots have been glazed fired and the crystals are already grown. I’ve found that it can pop the colours and enhance the depth of the crystals in several of the formulations I have created.
Well I was asked to submit an article on Strike Firing for a new book called “Exploring Crystalline Glazes” by Diane Creber and here are my before/after pics that accompany the published description of this process. I also have an Artist’s feature, along with other Potter friends who specialize in these complex crystal glazes. The book will be out soon in Canada and the USA. and I’m excited to get my copy! Learn more about Crystalline glazes here in this interesting and well written article by Glenn L. Woods Jr. (multi- talented guy!) Glenn included a photo of one of my pieces and mention in this write up commissioned by the Museum of Ceramic Arts of New York.

There’s a lovely new Art Gallery in downtown Chilliwack filled with a great assortment of B.C. Artworks. I’m delighted to be represented with a selection of my newest works at “Lotsa Art Gallery” on Wellington Street.
My Studio/Showroom on Ariel Place is still open by appointment - just call ahead to see a full range of my Crystalline and Stoneware pots - but you are also welcome to pop by “Lotsa Art” to browse and enjoy.
A walk around Chilliwack’s “District” and Downtown area is always a fun experience with restaurants, shopping, murals and more!

My fave tulip vase - copper red luster - high fired in oxidation, then post fire reduced. Pondering on more crystalline lusters coming this year 🥰.

I received a note this morning that brought a big smile! Steve Gordon is a delightful fellow who was a participant in a weekend workshop I delivered at the Dunedin Fine Arts Center in Florida a couple of years ago. He wrote today that he had just attended his tenth workshop, and “I learned from every one… all valuable…all talented instructors. But I loved yours best…”
He went on to say that “ I use several of your glazes each week” and closed with “This why you are the “Czarina of Zinc – the Damsel of Denzox!”
Now how fun is that?! Made my day. Thank you, Steve 😊

Tomorrow, Saturday, Nov 29, feels like it should be one more Open Studio day! 😃 From 10:30-4:30 I’ll be in the Studio at the wheel making pots and welcoming visitors who stop in to browse.
