These are beautiful examples of what you can create with a piece of wood, a wood burning tool and some free time on the weekend. I offer the intro class most Sundays at 1pm or can make arrangements for groups of 2 to 6 on another convenient day. In the class everyone does something different. This gives everyone the opportunity to get a feel for the woodburning tool, do a little designing and choose to use paint or not. You can draw freehand or trace or a bit of both to create an image.

This little guy is a class example I made for a collaborative class with the Alberta Craft Council in Calgary at the RGO Treehouse in cSPACE Marda Loop. It's a great space with an inspiring view of the city. Haven't been posting much on socials but I have been busily being busy:) So I'm getting back to life. My Dad died last year and it's been quite a lot. Don't have words to express it asides for a lot. I am now responsible for my almost 100 year old grandma so that is also a lot. She's a character and we've probably never spent this much time together since I was little so that has been good. This post was supposed to be about adding shading and detail to a project. You can see in the first photo that there is shading and pattern on the mushroom and it adds visual detail and interest. In the middle photo notice all the eraser crumbs. It often takes a lot of thinking with your pencil and eraser to get your spots right or your details right. Shading with the woodburning tool takes time and patience so in an intro class the focus is on outlines, mark making, pattern and getting used to the tool. So you can add shading if you want to. but it is not necessary. You can also add a bit of colour if you like🌟💙💚💛💜🩷❤️🌟 I'm working on more advanced classes so keep an eye out👀

A new old thing has come back into my life💙💚💙it was a community art project from over a decade ago. So much glitter and glue and good memories. It's a little too heavy to hang up here but I'll be propping it up somewhere soon. Stay tuned🌟💫🌟

When you take a woodburning class, you get to spend a few hours learning something new and taking some time to relax and see what you can create. In this intro class everyone chooses to make something unique to them. We cover safety first, materials, the machine, design transfer, mark making and design considerations. Pyrography is a multi sensory art making process. You can see the wood go from light to dark as the hot pen touches it and you can smell the smoke as it burns. You can feel in your fingertips a little sizzle as your pen slides through the wood and you can hear the subtle sound of the wood burning as you go along. The common thing I hear during this class is that it's the first time people have felt totally relaxed in a long time.
