Did you know?! 🛏️

While it is not proven, it is highly rumoured that the phrase ""sleep tight"" was due to rope-strung beds like these at the Duffy Homestead.

At the time, these beds, used ropes (instead of springs) that needed to be tied tightly under the mattress to keep it securely in place, hence the phrase 'sleep tight'.

is an informal business “holiday” that falls on the Tuesday after Labour Day each year…☎️

It’s considered one of the busiest days of the year for phone calls to businesses, organizations, and customer service centers. The idea is that after the long Labour Day weekend—and with summer vacations ending—people start catching up on postponed tasks, booking appointments, asking for quotes, and generally getting back into their regular routines.

This has us thinking about our wall-mounted antique phone! Even though this was a massive step for communication technology, a day spent returning phone calls may have been more challenging with this style of phone!

You find a lot of exciting items when you are restoring a heritage home!

These newspapers, dating to December 14, 1893, had been used within wallpaper for additional insulation.

As far as we have been able to see, "Lard Must Co." is no longer in business...

Back-to-school help still available for Caledon families in need!

More than 300 backpacks have already gone out the door at Caledon Community Services (CCS), but families in need can still register for the program before the month is out.

Chief development officer Mariia Kupriianova said each bag comes with school-friendly snacks and two $25 gift cards — one for Walmart and one for the CCS Evolve thrift store — to help families cover the broader costs of going back to school.

Caledon Community Services has already distributed 300+ backpacks to local students, but eligible families still have time to apply. Registration remains open until Aug. 31, unlocking year-round support for residents.
