Now at the Gibson Gallery until September 6th.

THE ZEN FREAKSHOW
August 17 – Sept 6

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, step right up, and bear witness to the wild visual oddities of the Zen Freakshow. With this stupefying exhibition, the eccentric and amazing artist Jay Raven presents for your visual digestion and mental contemplation a shocking and curious selection of his intriguing and imaginative works of art. Some say these bizarre compositions are the ninth wonders of the world; some say they are the alchemical illustrations of a man possessed. Is it just inspired creativity, is it perhaps madness, it’s up to you to decide -admission is free. Be amazed, be astounded, be thrilled; you’ve seen the rest, now see the best. Come, enter the Zen Freakshow, if you dare.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I endeavor to create art that is adventurous, innovative, and suggestive of imagination and intrigue. My creative process is motivated and guided by an adherence to a mindful nothingness where I release expectation and allow myself to enter a zen-like state. Here, I am able to explore the hidden possibilities of lines, shapes, colors, and ideas without critique or apprehension, and thus with this process come works of art that possess wild concepts, bizarre features and weird vistas that amalgamate into intriguing and stylized works of art. The end results are often unique and freakish in their originality, yet thrive as potent expressions of curiousity and creativity.

Mixed media collage.......what do you say to giving it a try?

Do you have a collection of works on paper (acrylic, watercolour, drawing, etc.) that never quite became what you hoped they could be? Dust them off and bring them to this workshop. We will take your works, cut, tear and rearrange them to make two small stunning collage compositions you can be proud of. While we work, we will discuss collage as a medium and how to fine tune your composition skills. All materials provided, just bring your old work that you don't mind taking apart. Artists working on paper of all skill levels welcome. Join artist Julie Bell on September 14 from 6 to 9 pm to enjoy this class.
