LIEUTENANCY BOARD EXAMINATIONS

This weekend, on the morning of Sunday, August 3, at 9:30 am, as an element of Fort Malden's "Heritage Days" event and our own annual "School of the Sailor" activities, the Provincial Marine will be hosting Crown Forces 1812 Naval Establishment examination boards for two prospective candidates for the rank of Lieutenant. These examinations will be held at the Commissariat Building, at the north end of Amherstburg's Navy Yard Park.

The Crown Forces North America Naval Establishment is an umbrella organization under which all War of 1812 naval re-enactment groups across the continent work together to assure appropriate levels of historical accuracy in our impressions, as well as maintaining strict safety protocols and qualifications for the protection of our own personnel and the public attending our events. As such, all candidates for command roles within member organizations must demonstrate an acceptable degree of knowledge and experience by means of a verbal examination conducted by a Board of senior military re-enactment officers. This mirrors the historical Boards held for this purpose by the British Royal Navy of the early 19th century.

The two candidates scheduled for examination this year are our own Mr. Jason Grainger, Acting Lieutenant, Provincial Marine Amherstburg, and Mr. Rory Tassonyi, Midshipman, HMS 'Prince Regent'.

This year's Examining Board will be comprised of CFNA Naval Establishment Commodore Thomas Hurlbut, CFNA Commanding Officer Brigadier General Tom Fournier, and CFNANE Lake Erie Station Commander Dale Kidd.

Public are invited to attend; however, seating will be limited due to venue size. The first examination will commence at 9:30 sharp.

Get a glimpse into the world of pirates this weekend, September 20th through 22nd, at the Amherstburg Uncommon Festival. Talk to Captain Kidd's crew of ruthless cutthroats. Learn about the skills a pirate needed to survive, afloat and ashore. See the weapons they needed to master. Watch the firing of cannon, and attacks by a pirate longboat.
Stop by the pirate camp near the Commissariat building, in the north end of the Navy Yard Park, Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday during the Festival. But beware... there is no honour among thieves, and the world of pirates is fraught with danger!

A foul wind blows in from the lake, bringing ashore the rage of four hundred years, as Captain Kidd and his dastardly crew of cutthroat pirates return to the Amherstburg Uncommon Festival, September 20th through 22nd.
Visit the pirate camp at the Commissariat building, next door to the Park House Museum for demonstrations of common pirate weapons, cannon, rope making, and historical cooking. Watch for the crew's longboat to attack the shoreline. And keep a weather hand on yer purse... or yer b***y be OURS! ☠️

A suspicious vessel has been seen cruising the waters near the mouth of the Detroit River, even as rumours of other boats mysteriously disappearing have begun to circulate. This sail boat has been seen flying the bloody ensign, which signifies "No Quarter Given", and even sailing into the very eye of the wind itself, against all the laws of physics.
As the anniversary of the defeat of Captain Kidd and his notorious crew of cutthroats two years ago nears, could it be that the infamous buccaneer and his bloodthirsty gang have returned for their revenge?
