Positivity as an Act of Resistance:
In a climate where attention is increasingly driven by outrage, fear, and division, this exhibition proposes another mode of engagement. Rather than amplifying friction, it brings together practices that reshape how we relate to complexity, tension, and one another. Positivity is approached here not as naive optimism or denial, but as a deliberate stance, a way of holding space for questioning, ambiguity, multiplicity, and transformation. Across the works, objects, images, bodies, materials, and colours do not oppose one another, but coexist, overlap, and shift in meaning. Fragments are not resolved into a single narrative; instead, they form constellations in which different temporalities and references remain simultaneously present.

Image: Ellen Dhondt, Envelope, 2026, acrylic, marker, coloured pencil & spray paint on paper, 54 x 63 cm

(°2000, Belgium) lives and works in Ghent. In 2023, she obtained her Master’s degree in Fine Arts at KASK – School of Arts in Ghent. Through a spontaneous and seemingly innocent visual language, Dhondt creates a pictorial world that allows her to foreground the often trivialized experiences of women. Inspired by the cut-out paper dolls of the 1920s, she developed an alter ego: Ellie Dolly. This character appears in various situations and environments through which Dhondt explores complex female identity, universal themes, and taboos.

She has participated in several (group) exhibitions at BARBÉ (Ghent, 2025), Michèle Schoonjans Gallery (Brussels, 2025), Kunsthal Gent (Buy Local, 2025), Pizza Gallery (Antwerp, 2024), Maison des Arts (Brussels, 2024), Giftshop (Ghent, 2024), and Het Bos (Antwerp, 2023). She was awarded second prize at Art Contest 2024. In 2025, she completed the M-Residency at Cas-co, followed by a solo presentation from October 2025 until February 2026 at M Leuven, BE.

Image: , ‘Fading’, 2026, oil paint on Canson paper, framed with UV-resistant and anti-reflective Art Glass, 32,5 x 42 cm (framed)

A fingerprint is generally used to register a person’s identity, reducing the individual to a single print. By repeatedly imprinting it onto paper, the identity slowly fades and the ego gradually disappears. Typical of Kris Martin’s oeuvre, the work reflects on impermanence, disappearance and the dissolution of the self through an extremely minimal gesture.
