EDJI Gallery is pleased to announce Robert Martin’s upcoming solo exhibition, A Gift of Tears.

Opening preview: 02.09.2026, 6–9pm at EDJI Gallery, in company of the artist.

‘A Gift of Tears’ presents a new body of work bringing together watercolour, painting and installation in a deeply personal reflection on faith, memory and q***r belonging.

The exhibition grew in part from Martin’s time in Belgium, where visits to churches, stained glass windows and religious paintings, especially in Ghent, left a strong impression on their visual language. Rather than quoting these references directly, Martin absorbs their atmosphere: the glow of coloured glass, the stillness of devotional images, and the emotional weight carried by gold, symmetry and light. These elements enter the work softly, alongside the artist’s own world of rural landscapes, animals, folklore and q***r histories.

The gallery is now closed for the summer and will reopen in September. Here are a few things coming up between now and the start of fall season :

03–21 August
‘Foundations’ curated by Artsy, with new works by Sofia Pashaei, Jacques Merle and Shishi San.

02 September
Gallery reopening and preview of A Gift of Tears, Robert Martin’s first gallery solo exhibition with EDJI.

10–13 September
Brussels Art Week with RendezVous - Brussels Art Week, including the public opening of Robert Martin’s exhibition, guided tours and other special events.

24–27 September
The Armory Show in NYC with a solo booth of new works by Killion Huang.

We’ll be sharing more very soon but until then, we wish you all a wonderful summer break 🏖️

👋 Meet the artist behind our current exhibition.

Philippine d’Otreppe is a Belgian artist based in Brussels whose practice moves between drawing, painting and ceramics.

Beginning with sketches made while travelling or observing daily life, she translates fleeting encounters and overlooked details into intuitive compositions. Moving freely across mediums, her work brings image and object into conversation, allowing the familiar to shift into something more playful, strange or quietly absurd.

Humour and sensitivity sit at the centre of this approach. Rather than treating the ordinary as incidental, Philippine gives it renewed attention, exploring how places, gestures and objects can hold memory and meaning over time.

Her work gives ordinary things their share of attention, gently unsettling familiar categories and revealing the unexpected beauty of modest details and absurd situations.
