A little glimpse.

Kylian Martin’s This Land is Kin is now on the walls at Tyger, the gallery is looking absolutely incredible, and we’ll be opening the show tomorrow.

Join us Saturday to get the full picture – this is a show that really needs to be seen in the room.

Kylian was born and raised in Yass, and this is a deeply personal return to the landscape that shaped her.

Kylian Martin’s This Land is Kin opens at Tyger this Saturday, but subscribers got access to the catalogue and pre-sales today.

This is a deeply personal show for Kylian, who was born and raised in Yass. The works are raw, instinctive and physically connected to place, made with materials including soil, rainwater, dam water, charcoal, ink and wax pastel.

This long weekend at Tyger 🧡🐯

We’ve got a big weekend coming up in the gallery, with a new show opening on Saturday and The Drawing Room returning on Sunday.

On Saturday, Kylian Martin’s new show, This Land is Kin, opens at Tyger.

Kylian was born and raised in Yass, and this is a deeply personal body of work shaped by land, memory, return and belonging. The works use materials including bones, charcoal, grass, rainwater and soil, and mark Kylian’s return to the landscape that shaped her.

Opening celebration:
Saturday 3 October, from 3pm
Everyone welcome.

Then on Sunday, The Drawing Room returns for spring.

These are relaxed, welcoming life drawing sessions in the gallery, led by artist Sara Phemister and featuring experienced life model Tori Addams. No experience needed, materials provided, and beginners are very warmly welcome.

Tonight we took a little Tyger field trip to Queanbeyan to celebrate the fabulous Ray Monde.

Ray’s new show, The Places That Shape Us, has opened at The Q Exhibition Space as part of the Queanbeyan Arts Trail – and it is absolutely worth the drive.

The show brings together huge, ghostworked collage pieces exploring q***r lived experiences in regional Australia. These works are tender, witty, layered, personal and full of Ray’s extraordinary visual language – road signs, memory, country towns, identity, humour, pain, survival and the places that make us.

We are so honoured to work with Ray at Tyger, and so happy to see this major body of work being shown in the region.

Also, because Tyger the dog had a bandage change today, Sara marked the occasion with what we are calling a Ray Monde-inspired vet-wrap artistic intervention: poplar trees, colourful boulders and Ray’s upside down crown. We did briefly question whether this was trademark infringement, but decided, as a stubborn border collie, Tyger would be difficult to drag through the legal system.

Huge congratulations to Ray, and much love to the Queanbeyan arts community. The Places That Shape Us is a must-see while it’s at The Q.

We're so excited that The Drawing Room returns this Sunday.

Our relaxed life drawing sessions are back at Tyger for spring, led by artist Sara Phemister and featuring experienced life model Tori Addams.

These sessions are gently guided, friendly and open to all levels. You don’t need to be a serious sketcher, have any experience, or even know your way around a pencil. Materials are provided, and refreshments too.

Join us for two nourishing hours of drawing, looking, slowing down and making art in good company – in the gallery, surrounded by Kylian Martin’s new show, This Land is Kin.

Come once, or book all three spring sessions and make a little creative ritual of it.

Last chance weekend for To Share and Fragments.

Alexa Kalo’s To Share and Sarah Robinson’s Fragments are on the walls for just a few more days, with both shows finishing on Monday 28 September.

It has been such a joy having these two Tyger New Ground Award shows in the gallery – Alexa’s generous, colour-filled tablescapes in one room, Sarah’s atmospheric fragments of landscape, memory and story in the other.

If you’ve been meaning to come in, this is your moment.

Sara and Sarah will be taking charge in the gallery this weekend, so you’ll be in very good hands.

We’re thrilled to announce the Miriam Lieberman Trio is coming to Tyger.

On Sunday 29 November, Miriam Lieberman will bring her extraordinary trio to the gallery for an intimate afternoon of live music – kora, guitar, violin and three-part vocal harmonies, performed in a room where every note will land.

Miriam is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and kora player whose music draws together contemporary folk, West African rhythms and beautifully layered strings and voices. She’ll be joined at Tyger by Susie Bishop and Rocio Ibacache.

This is going to be a very special chance to hear spellbinding music up close, surrounded by art, in one of the warmest and most beautiful spaces in Yass.

Miriam’s new single, Bridge in Time, is out now, and this concert forms part of her album preview tour.

Kylian Martin is coming home to Yass.

We’re very excited to announce that Kylian’s new show, This Land is Kin, opens at Tyger on Saturday 3 October. Kylian describes this deeply personal body of work as “part tribute, part memoir, part healing”.

Raised on a farm near Yass and now based in the Northern Rivers, Kylian makes work that is deeply connected to place, body, memory and movement. Her materials often come directly from the land itself – charcoal, ink, earth pigments, rainwater, soil, wood, bone and ash.

This Land is Kin is a return to the landscape that shaped her. The land of childhood, grief, longing, family, memory and belonging. The kind of place that doesn’t just sit in the background of your life, but gets into your bones.

Kylian’s work does not feel about the land. It feels made from a relationship with it. We’re very glad to be bringing this deeply personal show to Yass.

Meet the artists this weekend at Tyger.

Alexa Kalo’s To Share and Sarah Robinson’s Fragments are open all weekend, with Alexa joining us in the gallery throughout Saturday and Sarah joining us throughout Sunday.

Both shows opened to a packed, happy gallery last weekend – and now we get the lovely bit where people can come back, spend time with the work, ask questions, and talk to the artists without quite so many elbows in the doorway.

Alexa and Sarah are the recipients of the 2025 Tyger New Ground Award, selected from the ANU School of Art & Design grad show. We’ve loved working with both artists throughout the year, including taking their work to Affordable Art Fair Brisbane and Melbourne – and it’s been such a joy watching people connect with what they do.

Come in this weekend, meet the artists, see the shows, and maybe fall a little in love with something on the wall.
