Heritage Train rides are held every 1st & 3rd Sunday of each month.

🚂 Heritage train rides in Woodford, South East Queensland
📍 Margaret Street, Woodford QLD (25km west of Caboolture)

Whilst waiting for paint to dry (we've got a lot of that going on at the moment), our workshop team moved onto the water wagon. This wagon was part of the train when steam was in operation, should cinders ever set fire to the grass around the tracks.

With the steam locomotives having been out of service for a while now (once the diesels are restored, it'll be back onto the three steam loco's), the tank has ended up looking worse for wear.

So the team has gotten into stripping back the externals of the tank and applying an undercoat.

As a society run by a small number of volunteer members, we don't have the resources to bring every locomotive in our collection back to running order.

As such, SJ5 is going to have a cosmetic restoration. Rust removal started, tins and tins of fresh paint await!

Rides from 10:00am to 3:00pm (lunch break 12:30pm–1:30pm). Adults $8 | Kids $5 | Family $30 | Under 4 FREE.

No booking required. The café at the far end is closed, but free picnic tables are available for your use. All aboard.

Reminder: The Woodford Railway will be running this Sunday, 4th October 2026.

Rides from 10:00am to 3:00pm, with a lunch break from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Trips take approximately 15 minutes.

Adults $8 | Kids $5 | Family $30 | Under 4 FREE.

Miallo with its side tanks removed, and beginnings of the undercoating process. The side tanks store water, which would be moved into the boiler as the steam is used up and the water level in the boiler drops.

These tanks are what make that famous blue locomotive go by the name "T..… the tank engine".

Here is a before and after photo comparison, after our team has stripped out the interior of the cab on Baguley.

The sugar mill it served at, had planned to air condition it, but it never happened. Subsequently, four large rubbish bags of insulation were removed from inside the walls!

Being a volunteer run railway means we don't always have much spare time for social media updates between our day jobs, families and heritage work.

But we've managed to corner our workshop crew, taught them how to use a digital camera (they're much better at using power tools) and have some progress photo's on the overhaul of our latest acquisition, Mossman.

Note included with the photos "Work on Mossman picking up, with rust removal and bodywork in preparation for a fresh coat of paint."

Now they've mastered photography, we'll work on getting them to expand their vocabulary.

Train rides from 10am till 3.00pm, with a lunch break 12.30 till 1.30pm.

Adults $8
Seniors $6
Kids $5 (5yr-15yr old)
4 years old & under FREE.
Family $30

Trips take approximately 15 minutes so simply turn up to ride, no booking required. Tickets only available on the day, payment by cash or EFTPOS (VISA or Mastercard)

**please note that the Cafe at the other end of line is currently closed - this is an independent business to our railway**
