Fifty years of โDeadlyโ will be showcased in Gunnedah Shireโs annual NAIDOC Week Art Exhibition.
Artists, hobbyists, schools, organisations and individuals are encouraged to come together and explore this yearโs National NAIDOC Week theme by submitting art in any medium for the annual exhibition that celebrates our First Nations peoples.
Bundjalung/Gomeroi woman and emerging artist Hollie Crawford is running a workshop for First Nations women to assist them to create a work of art for submission. Gunnedah Shire Councilโs Cultural Precinct Team Leader Danny Hankinson said 50 years of National NAIDOC Week (5-12 July) was a significant achievement and should be celebrated.
โI hope to see everyone getting involved in this yearโs exhibition โ from the young in our daycare centres, to the elderly in our community โ to showcase a rich and vibrant culture that is woven through the continuum of time,โ he said.
โOne of the fantastic things about the NAIDOC exhibition is the range of mediums that are used to tell this story โ everything from weaving to wood etching to metal work โ and of course, the traditional art of dot painting and decorated didgeridoos.
โI encourage locals to start thinking about what they can submit to this special community exhibition.โ
