🌟 Student Spotlight – Meet Our School-Based Administration Trainees! 🌟

Today we're proud to introduce another three of our amazing School-Based Trainees (SBATs), all of whom attend Peel High School and have previously participated in programs delivered through the Opportunity Hub.

These deadly students are currently completing a Certificate II in Workplace Skills while undertaking their roles as Administration Trainees with the Tamworth Local Aboriginal Land Council, all while balancing their high school studies.

Their commitment, growth, and willingness to take on new opportunities has been fantastic to see, and we're excited to support them on their journey over the next two years.

We are incredibly proud to have them on board and can't wait to see what they achieve throughout their traineeships. 💙

𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐥𝐥 ‘𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐲’ 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬: 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐍𝐀𝐈𝐃𝐎𝐂

Fifty years of ‘Deadly’ will be showcased in Gunnedah Shire’s annual NAIDOC Week Art Exhibition.

Artists, hobbyists, schools, organisations and individuals are encouraged to come together and explore this year’s National NAIDOC Week theme by submitting art in any medium for the annual exhibition that celebrates our First Nations peoples.

Bundjalung/Gomeroi woman and emerging artist Hollie Crawford is running a workshop for First Nations women to assist them to create a work of art for submission. T𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟗 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝟏𝟎𝐚𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝟐𝐩𝐦 is free for First Nations women but is limited to 12 places. Materials will be provided, and no experience is necessary.

The workshop, facilitated through Arts North West, is funded by the Australian Government’s Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support Program.

Gunnedah Shire Council’s Cultural Precinct Team Leader Danny Hankinson said 50 years of National NAIDOC Week (5-12 July) was a significant achievement and should be celebrated.

“I hope to see everyone getting involved in this year’s exhibition – from the young in our daycare centres, to the elderly in our community – to showcase a rich and vibrant culture that is woven through the continuum of time,” he said.

“One of the fantastic things about the NAIDOC exhibition is the range of mediums that are used to tell this story – everything from weaving to wood etching to metal work – and of course, the traditional art of dot painting and decorated didgeridoos.

“I encourage locals to start thinking about what they can submit to this special community exhibition.”

A relaxed evening to create, connect, and celebrate the special women and mother figures in our lives.

Hosted by Bumbira Art and Culture, we’ll be getting creative and making our own unique “book vase” a beautiful handmade piece to gift or keep.
