DON'T DO IT MATE! Friends of Australian comedian Peter Helliar are reportedly on standby this week, as they look to make sure the comedian doesn’t also sink to becoming a rage baiting grifter.

After watching the career of one Dave Hughes take a hard right turn into Sky News territory, it’s believed people in Peter Helliar’s circle have been checking in to make sure he doesn’t do the same.

Speaking to one of Pete’s mates, Corinne McManus, it’s understood a few mates have been on the lookout for the popular comedian who used to play the role of “the bumbling funny white guy” when The Project was on TV.

“It’s so frightening to see what’s been happening to Hughesy, and it all happened so quick!” said Corrine from outside Pete’s home.

“So we’re all taking turns popping into Pete’s house, dropping off the odd quiche and such, and just making sure he hasn’t been spending too much time glazing his eyeballs with conspiracy content.”

The news comes as comedians across Australia react to the sudden changes in comedian Dave Hughes' demeanor, who’s gone from whining about parking fines, to loud rants about how immigrants and Albo are ruining the country.

Speaking to the star of the 2018 Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala, Adam Okine-Baron-Hooper, the industry insider has told The Advocate comedians across Australia have also been texting each other to make sure no one else is showing symptoms of Russell Brand-esque behaviour.

“It’s really all about awareness! It’s crazy how quickly the algorithm can radicalise you like this,” Adam Okine-Baron-Hooper told our reporter.

“One minute your whole schtick is just whining about bad neighbours and their hedges, the next you’re on a high octane rant about migrants taking jobs, which you’re broadcasting from one of your multi-million dollar holiday homes.”

“Sure, heaps of us career comedians are struggling to sell more than 70% of tickets to our Friday night stand up shows, but turning into a One Nation mouthpiece simply because no one listens to you anymore, it’s just a desperate step too far…”
