🔥 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | CLAIRE MURPHY

You’ve seen the sculptures — now let’s get to know the artist behind them.

As Of Rust and Rain continues at the Grassland Art Gallery, we’re turning the spotlight onto the second talented artist behind this special mother-and-daughter exhibition.

Meet Claire Murphy. 🔩

Raised in Mount Isa and having spent much of her life on cattle properties, Claire’s work is strongly influenced by the Australian Outback and the rural lifestyle she knows so well.

Combining her father’s passion for welding with the artistic influence of her mother, Rowena, Claire transforms recycled steel, old tools and discarded machinery into incredible sculptures full of character and life.

From horses and native wildlife to familiar scenes of the bush, it’s worth taking a closer look at each piece to see the everyday objects Claire has cleverly incorporated into her work.

Meet Rowena Paine Murphy. 🌾

Rowena’s artwork is known for its rich storytelling, beautiful use of colour and heartfelt connection to the Australian landscape. Inspired by rural life, the people who live it and the country around her, her paintings capture the beauty, strength and character of the bush.

We know, we know… we've only just ticked over to October, but apparently we’re already talking Christmas! 🎅🏼

So while it might feel slightly early, pop this one in the calendar now…

🌿 Last chance to see Sculptures in the Grass! 🌿

Our very first Sculptures in the Grass is nearly coming to an end, so if you haven’t made it down to the Tambo Dam for a look yet, now’s your chance!

The sculptures won’t be there for much longer, as they’ll soon be making way for a new collection of sculptures to take their place. 👀✨

So take a wander and enjoy these wonderful pieces while you still can.
