A little Southern Highlands Bowral magic ā¤ļøāœØšŸ“ø

Just back from a fabulous few days filled with beautiful food, plenty of laughs and memories worth capturing.

If you havenā€™t visited the stunning grounds of Bendooley Estate, put it on your bucket list. The setting is beyond gorgeous, the food is fantastic and there seems to be a beautiful photograph, paint and walk around every corner.

Iā€™m usually the one behind the camera capturing everyone else, and I have to admit, I love creating these little visual memories of the people, places and moments that make up our lives.

A beautiful few days. ā¤ļø

YAY! Some exciting newsā€¦ Iā€™m going on a BOOK TOUR!ā€¦ to change peopleā€™s lives šŸŽ‰

Which is slightly hilarious, when I think about how my whole art journey startedā€¦šŸ«¶

I wasnā€™t supposed to become an artist..it just happened! ā¤ļø

I started painting and exploring my feelings with colour, was dubbed The Accidental Artist on national TV, put my work on Instagram and somehow a New York gallery found me and now my art has been featured in Times Square, New York.

As you do. šŸ˜‚āœØšŸ«¶šŸ’«

Found myself enjoying exhibiting, selling paintings and finding myself inside this strange, fascinating world of artists, galleries and collectors.

And I started noticing something. šŸ’«

So many of my friends loved art, but were actually quite intimidated by it.

Theyā€™d happily tell me what they loved when we were sitting around having a coffee, but put them inside a gallery and suddenly nobody wanted to ask a ā€œstupidā€ question.

How do I know if itā€™s good?

Can I ask the price?

What am I supposed to say to the artist?

Can I just say I donā€™t like it?

And my favouriteā€¦ what the hell does that artist statement actually mean?

I realised there are a LOT of people who love art but feel like they donā€™t know enough about it.

And somewhere in all those conversations, ā€œ How To Be An Art Snobā€¦ Even If Youā€™re Not One! ā€œ ..was born ā¤ļø

Itā€™s not really about becoming an art snob at all. šŸ˜…

Itā€™s about taking some of the intimidation out of art, having a bit of fun with the wonderfully odd world around it and giving people the confidence to trust their own tastešŸ„‚šŸŽ‰šŸ™ŒšŸ‘šŸ‘

And I have to mention one person Iā€™m particularly proud of.

My son Taj, he took the photographs inside my latest 5th new book.

Under my direction, naturally. šŸ˜‚

But seriously, having him be part of something that started as one of my crazy ideas and eventually became an actual book is pretty special to me.

And now people are BUYING IT GLOBALLY. šŸŽ‰ā¤ļøšŸ™Œ

That bit never gets oldāœØšŸ™

So Iā€™m very excited to finally say that Iā€™m heading out on tour with Harry Hartog and Berkelouw Books.šŸ’«šŸ„‚

Iā€™ll be talking about the book, art, collecting, artists, galleries and probably a few things I shouldnā€™t say out loud.

Because art doesnā€™t have to be so bloody serious.

Thereā€™s a reason.

When you stand in front of an original painting, youā€™re standing in front of every brushstroke, every layer, every moment I spent working through it. That energy doesnā€™t transfer to a print.

I believe original art holds a frequencyā€¦ one that a screen or a copy simply canā€™t hold.

This is why I paint in layers. Each Ocean Lightscape has movement built into it, physically, so the light shifts as you move past it. You feel it before you understand it.

If youā€™ve ever stood in front of a painting and felt something you couldnā€™t explainā€¦ thatā€™s not a coincidence. Thatā€™s the art doing its job.
