The upcoming exhibition, The Out Of the Ordinary marks the culmination of 50 years of Judith's art practice. It focuses on the everyday actions—past and present—that carry deep meaning. She is particularly drawn to these small rituals. Through sketching, she has documented the interactions between people: how they sit, wait, talk, and engage with one another, as well as their relationships with animals, including pets, and the ways they socialise together.

Hans Arkeveld
b. Netherlands 1942, arr. WA 1952, d.2026

"Sagittal Head with Embryo" 1976 - 2000

Today we say goodbye to an amazing local artist and human being Hans Arkeveld.

Hans was one of Western Australia’s most successful and well known public sculptors who is renowned for his technical ability particularly in figure modelling and bronze casting.

He completed a Certificate in Commercial Art in 1963 and a Diploma in Fine Art in 1966 at Perth Technical College, then an Associateship in Fine Art (Sculpture) at WAIT (now Curtin University) in 1968. He has since taught Drawing and Sculpture at Perth Technical College and Claremont School of Art, as well as Anatomical Drawing at UWA.

He has completed several public commissions such as the bronze sculpture of the early WA explorer Alexander Forrest which stands in the Forrest Centre on St George’s Terrace and Homo Fallible outside the Lawrence Wilson Gallery at UWA.

His retrospective exhibition Transient was held at the Gallery Central in June 2004. It was an honour and privilege to have worked with Hans on it.

Have you seen the Risograph greeting cards created by our Diploma of Graphic Design students?

They’re currently on display in the cabinet at 133 Newcastle Street, Northbridge (NMTAFE Perth Building 4) —and they’re definitely worth a look!

In this Diploma project, students explore the creative possibilities and constraints of risograph printing by designing a greeting card using only two spot colours. Through careful consideration of colour interaction, layering, composition, and print production techniques, students learn how to maximise visual impact with a limited palette. The project challenges them to think strategically about design while embracing the distinctive textures, overlaps, and imperfections that make risograph printing a unique and expressive medium.

✨ Drop by and check them out!
