Join us for a free talk and presentation with artist Leah Bennet at Gallery Central Perth.

Leah Bennet is a Wudjari Noongar woman, interior designer, furniture designer, and founder of Leah Paige Designs, an Aboriginal-owned design practice based in Perth. Through her work, Leah is helping shape a new generation of Australian design by embedding Aboriginal culture, connection to Country, and authentic storytelling into contemporary residential, commercial and public environments.

Recognised for her distinctive approach to culturally informed design, Leah works at the intersection of interior design, place-making, social impact and Indigenous engagement. Her projects demonstrate how thoughtful design can move beyond aesthetics to create meaningful connections between people, culture and place.

Leah’s experience spans interior design, furniture design, commercial fit-outs, residential projects and large-scale developments. She collaborates closely with Elders, cultural advisors and Aboriginal businesses to ensure cultural knowledge is represented respectfully and authentically throughout the design process.

This Artist Conversation is particularly valuable for Interior Design students and staff, offering firsthand insight into contemporary professional practice, culturally responsive design, and the evolving role of designers in shaping inclusive and meaningful environments.

North Metro TAFE is honoured to have recently acquired a series of images which now adorn the entry foyer of the Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering labs in Aberdeen Street Perth.

Brad Rimmer is a renown West Australian photographer who studied photography at Mt Lawley TAFE and Claremont School of Art in the 1980s. Rimmer works on long-term projects of portraiture, landscape and social documentation, and earlier this year held a major retrospective, Loom of the Land, presented by Perth Festival at Fremantle Arts Centre.

The Wheatstone LNG Plant images are from the Worksite Environment series of over 80 photographs commissioned by Chevron in 2023, underscoring the role of industry in Western Australia. The series explore what the artist describes as his interest in human interventions that are in themselves part of the landscape’s ongoing transformation.

From stunningly desolate landscapes to immaculate portraits of steel pipes, Rimmer creates images that are beyond the decorative, as he puts it, that ‘purposely manipulate reality and time that challenge traditional notions of photography and our perception of the familiar’.

Join us for a free talk and presentation with artist Kasia Kolikow at Gallery Central Perth.

Kasia is a Perth-based multidisciplinary artist and NM TAFE alumna whose practice explores ideas of home, belonging, identity and place through textiles, soft sculpture, machine knitting, photography, printmaking and hand-stitching. A graduate of North Metropolitan TAFE’s Advanced Diploma of Visual Art, Kasia has quickly established an impressive emerging practice, exhibiting across Western Australia and participating in significant artist residency programs.

More recently, Kasia undertook a collaborative residency at Midland Junction Arts Centre with fellow NM TAFE graduate Nazerul Ben-Dzulkefli, developing work for their exhibition Where Do We Truly Belong?, which continued her exploration of belonging through knitting, photography and personal narratives.

For this Artist Conversation, Kasia will share an honest and practical insight into her journey since leaving TAFE — from her first professional opportunities and residencies to developing new skills, applying for funding and finding ways to sustain and evolve an art practice.

Congratulations to 2025 Art & Design graduate Jessica Shannon's recognition at the Hatched: National Graduate Show 2026 launch at PICA. Jessica was announced as one of three recipients of the prestigious 2026 Dr Harold Schenberg Arts Award, receiving a $15,000 award in recognition of her outstanding artistic talent and contribution to contemporary art.

As a national award, it represents the very pinnacle of arts graduate achievement in Australia. This award forms part of the largest prize pool for emerging artists in Australia.

Jessica’s installations reference her experience working in the Pilbara region of WA, reflecting the juxtaposition of ancient landscapes against the growing demand for resources and the tension it creates.

Jessica’s work is represented in the North Metropolitan TAFE Art Collection.

One Becomes Many Becomes One by Wendy Robertson

Wendy Robertson is a visual artist who is primarily influenced by an interest in beauty and fragility, both of the human spirit and the natural world. As a storyteller she employs a variety of mediums to explore this reoccurring theme, including installation, writing, found objects, painting, reductive and constructive sculpture.

In this exhibition One Becomes Many Becomes One she has deliberately chosen non-permanent monochromatic materials to explore shape, form, light, shadow, space and time. The lightweight kinetic sculptures have evolved from a series of daily drawings applying automatism as a strategy and technique to tap into the subconscious.

At the heart of the exhibition One Becomes Many Becomes One, a series of black-and-white paper works by the same title, hang gently in the air. They invite us to rethink what sculpture can be, turning our attention to the quiet beauty of space and form. There is a tender honesty to these pieces, they stand apart in their sense of vulnerability and impermanence, they feel fragile, fleeting, and deeply human. Paola Anselmi PhD

Congratulations to NMTAFE alumna Jessica Shannon on receiving a prestigious arts award!

We are thrilled to congratulate NMTAFE’s Jessica Shannon on being named one of the recipients of the prestigious 2026 Dr Harold Schenberg Arts Awards.

Jessica has been recognised for her outstanding work, Allowing the Dust to Settle and In-Tension (2025), receiving a $15,000 award for Most Exceptional Artist as part of PICA’s Hatched: National Graduate Show.

Jessica was one of three emerging artists selected for the $15,000 award, joining Lychandra Anastasia Gieseman from the University of Tasmania and Tabitha Glanville from Monash University.

Congratulations, Jessica! We are incredibly proud of your achievement and look forward to seeing where your artistic journey takes you next.
