THANKS, NO THANKS by Judith Forrest

We are busy insatlling Judith’s second exhibition with us at Gallery Centralthis year.

The exhibition a survey of one artist’s public art applications from 2000 to 2022. Judith Forrest has been individually awarded and completed over 25 public projects from a variety of government and private clients. Of course, to complete so many projects she needed to apply for many more. This exhibition documents both her successful and unsuccessful submissions.

POLYPHONIC

Polyphonic is a vibrant exhibition of contemporary visual art and jewellery developed through the pilot ‘Artist in Residence Skill Set’, showcasing artworks from alumni across mixed media assemblage, printmaking, ceramics, drawing, installation and jewellery. The exhibition celebrates experimentation, artistic development and the diverse voices that have emerged through the residency program.

Judith Forrest – THANKS, NO THANKS

This is Judith’s second solo exhibition at Gallery Central this year!

The exhibition looks at Judith’s work in public art and shows how her ideas develop from early sketches to finished designs. It also shows completed public artworks on site when her designs have been selected for commissions.

Judith uses drawing to think through and develop her ideas. The exhibition includes colourful early sketches as well as detailed finished drawings.

IN CONVERSATION WITH THE ARTIST
Wendy Robertson

Join us for artist talk, followed by Q & A session with Wendy Robertson

Wendy Robertson is a visual artist who is primarily influenced by an interest in beauty and fragility, both of the human spirit and the natural world. As a storyteller she employs a variety of mediums to explore this reoccurring theme, including installation, writing, found objects, painting, reductive and constructive sculpture. Although she has been most widely recognised for her reductive sculptural works in stone, in recent years her practice has focussed on construction and installation works, often employing the use of multiples.

In this exhibition One Becomes Many Becomes One she has deliberately chosen non-permanent monochromatic materials to explore shape, form, light, shadow, space and time. The lightweight kinetic sculptures have evolved from a series of daily drawings applying automatism as a strategy and technique to tap into the subconscious. Responsive movement and strong shadows invite reflection on the power in what we can’t see, the precious air that we breathe. The vessels speak to the fragility of the earth as it responds to external influences, morphing, cracking, and eventually returning to dust.
We are on Fragile Ground.

Upcoming exhibition THANKS NO THANKS at Gallery Central is a survey of one artist's public art applications from 2000 to 2022. Judith Forrest has independently been awarded and completed more than 25 public art projects for a variety of government and private sector clients.

This exhibition will offer a unique opportunity to view the processes involved in creating public artworks. The accompanying lectures provide an opportunity to discuss the methods, processes, and strategies involved in developing artwork for the community.
