Tomorrow evening at the Gallery 👉 Meet the minds behind internationally acclaimed A.A.Murakami, the collaborative practice of Azusa Murakami and Alexander Groves; whose pioneering installations blur the boundaries between art, science and technology.

Newcastle Art Gallery is flexing its newly expanded exhibition space, having launched two Australian first shows as it continues its return to the city’s cultural scene.

The gallery has unveiled Internationally recognised, Newcastle based artist Angela Tiatia, alongside the Australian debut of Japanese artist A.A.Murakami’s immersive installation: New Spring.

The exhibitions mark another milestone for the Gallery following its reopening earlier this year, with director Lauretta Morton OAM saying the expansion had created opportunities well beyond simply adding more exhibition space.

Join internationally acclaimed artists Azusa Murakami and Alexander Groves as they explore the ideas behind New Spring. Known for transforming bubbles, vapour, light and sound into mesmerising immersive experiences, A.A.Murakami creates works that challenge our understanding of nature, perception and time.

A.A.Murakami will be joined in conversation by award-winning Bundjalung and Kullilli writer, journalist and broadcaster Daniel Browning.

📣⏰Tomorrow is the final day to submit entries to the Kilgour Prize 2027!

🎨Open to figurative and portrait painters from across Australia, the Kilgour Prize awards $50,000 for the most outstanding work of art as selected by the judging panel.

Finalists will be displayed in an exhibition at Newcastle Art Gallery from April to August 2027.

A People’s Choice award of $5,000 is presented for the painting voted most popular by the public during the exhibition.
