📍 Check-in at Newcastle City Hall.

Perhaps you danced, celebrated, or learnt something here. No matter the reason, Newcastle’s Town Hall (now City Hall) has formed memories for the better part of a century.

For Henry Andrew Taylor, it inspired something extraordinary. Inspired by the building’s 1929 opening, Henry, a railway fitter, spent the Great Depression crafting a miniature version from 11,000 matchsticks, timber, and old watch faces.

A miniature marvel from the Great Depression, this tiny Town Hall is a huge story in craftsmanship.

See it now at Model Newcastle, open until 19 April.

Ever think you’d have a ship named after you?

Bob Nelson builds models of Royal Australian Navy vessels, but he skips the historic names. This Grimsby Class Sloop, based on HMAS Parramatta II, is named after his grandson Billy — keeping history close and family even closer.
