Last weekend to experience Unpacking Home at Latrobe Regional Gallery

This thoughtful exhibition explores how migrants to Australia create a sense of belonging through everyday gestures, objects and acts of care. Moving from intimate interior spaces to broader landscapes, it reflects on what it means to make, sustain and recognise home.

Drawing from the Gallery’s Collection, Unpacking Home places a spotlight on women’s labour, highlighting the often unseen work that supports families and communities and shapes our understanding of connection and place.

At its heart, this exhibition reminds us that home is not a fixed destination but something we build over time through care, memory and lived experience.

Don’t miss your final chance to see it before it closes.

Final weekend to experience A Country Practice by Janina Green at Latrobe Regional Gallery.

Janina Green’s powerful work transforms her seminal artist book into an immersive photographic installation, unfolding in chapters that explore memory, migration and belonging.

Beginning in 1949, the exhibition reflects on Green’s arrival in Australia as part of a wave of post-war migration, and her later return to Gippsland through a deeply personal archive of photographic negatives.

These images reveal the beauty and hardship of rural life, capturing both its tenderness and its edge. They speak to the experience of adaptation, the pull of the past, and the quiet strength found in everyday moments.

A Country Practice is both a reflection and a reclamation. It traces what has changed across generations while holding space for what still lingers.

Don’t miss your chance to step inside this moving and thought-provoking exhibition before it closes Sunday.

A wonderful afternoon of storytelling, connection and shared experience at Latrobe Regional Gallery on Saturday 💛

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Meet the Artists with Erica and Lisa Kurec as part of HOMEGROUND: Continuing Connections. This wholesome and heartfelt conversation explored immigration, Ukrainian heritage, and Gippsland as a first home for many, reflecting on the challenges, pride, and importance of keeping family traditions, rituals and celebrations alive.

It was inspiring to see such a strong intergenerational exchange, with stories and perspectives shared across ages, creating a space that was both meaningful and empowering.

Our Meet the Artists series continues to provide a free, welcoming and accessible platform for artists and community to connect, learn and engage and we’re so grateful to everyone who took part.
