To make known to the community the cataloguing & collections activities at Old Gippstown, a Heritage Park with approximately 50 historical buildings with collections in Moe, Victoria, Australia.

QUOTATION REQUEST: SHELTER FOR FOWLER STEAM TRACTION ENGINE AT OLD GIPPSTOWN
Our 1909 Fowler Steam Traction Engine is in need of a shelter to protect it from the weather. This artefact was classed as of local historic significance in a Significance Assessment carried out at Old Gippstown in 2009 by Cultural Heritage & Museum Studies, Deakin University, Melbourne, due to its extensive Gippsland history. An important part of our Gippsland history that needs to be preserved!
Its dimensions: L590cm x W224cm x H350cm. The work would include a thick concrete base, corrugated Colorbond curved roof and metal fencing (similar to first photo shown). For further information for quoting please contact [email protected]

TERRY O'CALLAGHAN GALLERY - OUR NEW EXHIBITION SPACE
Old Gippstown has been open for over 50 years, and now is the time to record our history for future reference. The Committee of Management decided that as Terry O'Callaghan had such a large part in forming and setting up our museum, we would remember him by naming our new exhibition space after him. A detailed information sign recognising Terry's contribution to our beginnings has also been erected. The Gallery is currently showing a period costumes display exhibition (as per a previous post).

YALLOURN DISPLAY
With the planned closure of the Yallourn Power Station in 2028, Old Gippstown considers it very important to start concentrating on collecting, cataloguing, archiving and displaying memorabilia from this important period of our Gippsland history. Currently we are setting up a display cabinet in the entrance to the park with Yallourn artefacts, including trophy cups from Yallourn High School and Yallourn briquettes and bricks. We would welcome donations that we can add to our treasured Yallourn collections, so we can curate interesting and informative Yallourn exhibitions in the future. Our function room at Old Gippstown has been officially named "The Yallourn Room" and we are currently organising old photographs, etc. for this space.

THANK YOU TO OLD GIPPSTOWN MEN'S SHED
Again we would like to thank the wonderful group of men at the Old Gippstown Men's Shed for working with us in maintaining and repairing our heritage buildings at Old Gippstown.
This time it was the refurbishment of the old stairway on the Narracan Mechanics' Institute Hall that was badly in need of repair.
Thank you again for assisting us in keeping our old buildings alive for everyone to enjoy.

PERIOD COSTUMES DISPLAY NOW OPEN
Our new period costumes display opened yesterday. This exhibition has artefacts selected from our catalogued costumes and accessories collections archived at Old Gippstown. It also includes antique showcases and period furniture donations to enhance the display. Traralgon dressmaker, Sarah Carter is featured including her sewing machine and information on her life - a tribute to a brave and resourceful woman of her time. This exhibition space was recently refurbished with funding from the Latrobe City Council Capital Works Grant scheme.

NEW BUGGY DONATION FOR OUR COLLECTIONS
Recently we picked up a donation of our 4 wheeled, 2 bench seats, buggy from a farm. This would have been used for trips into town and also for carrying produce to the nearest railway line. We plan to restore this lovely vehicle for display and also use for events at the park.

AXLE STANDS FOR HORSE-DRAWN VEHICLES
The Old Gippstown Men's Shed are currently making steel axle stands for our horse-drawn vehicles. These supports go under the wheel axle and are necessary to lift the body weight of the vehicle off the wheels. This is particularly important where wheels have rubber rims as they tend to flatten after time and also to take the weight off the wheels' wooden spokes. Our talented Men's Shed (Laurie, Mark, Mal and others) have created these stands in their new metal working facility at Old Gippstown. Many thanks for all of the invaluable work carried out in the park by this great group.

MEENIYAN NATIONAL BANK REPAIRS
The original old, pressed tin ceilings and upper walls of the Meeniyan National Bank of Australasia have recently been cleaned of mould, treated and repainted. This building was built for the Colonial Bank of Australasia in 1914 and was donated to Old Gippstown in 1969 by the National Bank, along with a collection of old National Bank furniture and banking items. This refurbishment also gave Heritage Buildings & Collections an opportunity to audit and further catalogue artefacts in this display.

REPAIRS TO THE FIRE STATION
The Lions Club of Moe is currently carrying out repairs to the floor of our old Fire Station (formerly a tennis pavilion from Moe). These have been necessary due to our heavy old girl, the 1938 Dodge fire truck, breaking the existing floorboards when being driven into the fire station. Extra foundations and bearers are being installed and new hardwood floorboards put in place. Thank you, once again, to the Moe Lions for their continued support and invaluable assistance at Old Gippstown.

BUGGY DONATION
We are very fortunate to have a buggy with excellent provenance and in original condition donated to our horse-drawn vehicles collection at Old Gippstown. This buggy was built by John Lowe, Coachbuilder (the donor Anne's great uncle) at J. Rintoull's Blacksmith, Wheelwright and Ironmonger shop in Morwell in the 1920s. We also have the first buggy built in Morwell by John Lowe in our collection. Anne 'put the kettle on' before we arrived and surprised us with a wonderful morning tea. This new buggy is now in our Coach House next to its relative. Thank you to Anne and Barry for your generosity and for supporting Old Gippstown. We now have over 40 vehicles in our significant horse-drawn vehicles collection. Well worth a visit!
