When mixing acrylics, pigments don't blend like light—colors combine subtractively, but manufacturers also add specific extender and dispersant additives that change how pigments interact at a microscopic level; those additives alter pigment particle spacing and refractive index, which can shift perceived hue and opacity even if you mix the same pigment ratios.
We test pigment behavior at Turquoise Design so our color-matched prints and reproductions stay true to the artist's original mixes.
