Bay of Fires Art Prize and exhibition finalists have been announced online.

Blenheim Gallery and Garden congratulates all finalists, and in particular Blenheim Gallery exhibiting artists Penny Mason, Chee Yong, Craig Ashton, Grace Gladdish and Anita Denholm.

The June long weekend is a highlight for St Helens with the exhibition and prize and overall festival and workshops.

Impressions and Layers Print exhibition opens Saturday 16 May at 2pm in the afternoon. Contemporary printmaking with Blenheim Gallery artists participating in the exhibition to highlight a dynamic, multifaceted, and evolving art form that bridges traditional, labor-intensive techniques with modern, innovative technologies.

This exhibition will showcase how artists use printmaking as a primary medium—often in limited editions—otherwise unique to explore themes of identity, memory, politics, and environmental issues through mediums such as lithography, screenprinting, woodcut, linocut, etching and intaglio.

Blenheim Gallery is pleased to report that David Hamilton will be exhibiting in August.

Recent news though is that David Hamilton’s “Jack in a Box” has returned to Blenheim Gallery for permanent display in Blenheim Gallery Sculpture Garden

This superb artwork has travelled extensively, having previously featured in Sculpture By the Sea - Bondi 2022, as well as being a notable entry in the Blenheim Gallery Sculpture Exhibition 2023.

The significance of colour in Hamilton’s sculptures is visually striking, with ‘red’ being contemporary and crossing cultures of meaning.

This bold choice of colour accentuates the form making the piece prominent against surrounding buildings.

In the context of the Blenheim Gallery Sculpture Garden, the red hue helps to highlight the unique shape and presence against the green of the space.

David’s particular area of specialization is metal casting working in powder coated steel for commissioned or exhibition pieces. The result is an immaculately produced sculpture of exceptional beauty.
