Who knew … 🚂

💯 This year represents 100 yrs since work started on the Kyogle ~ Brisbane Railway line.

On the 23 June 1926 a ‘ceremonial’ sod was turned, signifying the commencement of a nation building project.

Kyogle Museum is seeking any historic memorabilia items from that significant day

❓Were your family members there ?

❓What family stories, history ~ do you know ??

The former Queensland National Bank, now known as Stratheden House, occupies a prominent corner at 138–140 Summerland Way, Kyogle.

Constructed in 1921–1922, the building is a rare and highly intact example of the Federation Arts & Crafts style applied to a commercial bank. Designed by architect F. J. Board of Lismore and built by W. Tyrrell of Kyogle, the structure combines brickwork, roughcast render, timber detailing and a distinctive corner tower.

It remains one of the most architecturally significant early 20th century commercial buildings in Kyogle.

Do you have any memories, information or photos of Stratheden House. Would be appreciated.

Today we take it for granted … we flick a switch, we turn it on 💡

BUT … on this day 64 yrs ago a ‘Grand Ball’ was held, it was the hottest ticket in the District ~ electricity had arrived at Iron Pot Creek and Ghinni Ghi.

What a remarkable achievement back in the day !

On this day …. 90 years ago Kyogle Shire lost a civic leader of immense stature.

Mayor Robert J Moore (1875~1936) died in Office. Cr Moore amongst many civic contributions, is credited as being the father of Kyogle’s Art Deco period, overseeing the rebuilding of our Main Street from devastating fires.

Our Town Clock is dedicated to his lasting memory ~ today we remember his enduring legacy to our community.
