A little fun fact about me… my creativity doesn’t stop at stone! 🪨🧵

I love a bit of sewing, and this weekend I had the house to myself. No husband, no children… just me, my sewing machine and nobody asking, “What’s for dinner?” 😂

Naturally, I made the most of it. Here’s what came out of my lovely little weekend of peace and stitching!

Different material, same itch to make something. Apparently these hands don’t know how to take a day off. 😉

Reminiscing quarry days
Never thought changing a tyre in my underwear would become a fairly normal life skill… but quarry life has a way of adjusting your standards very quickly. 😆

Trips to town were rarely simple. In fact, if we didn’t get a flat tyre somewhere along the dirt road, it almost felt suspicious.

One particular trip still sticks in my mind.

For reasons still unknown to me, I decided I was going to arrive looking respectable. I had turned the generator on specifically to blow dry my hair, put makeup on, and was wearing a crisp white linen shirt like I was heading to a winery lunch instead of surviving the Kimberley outback with three small children.

What was I thinking?

Naturally, halfway to town… bang. Flat tyre.

Brian wasn’t with us, one child was crying, the baby was screaming, and the other two had strict instructions not to move from their seats because I refused to let all that effort be destroyed by red dirt and chaos.

Then the real performance began.

There I was on the side of the road, stripping down to my underwear to change a tyre in the Kimberley heat, trying to save my precious white shirt from becoming permanently “outback beige.”

Hair collapsed.
Makeup melted clean off my face.
Sweat pouring everywhere.
Children yelling.
Dust storm brewing around me like a dramatic movie scene.

By the time we finally rolled into town, I looked like I’d fought a crocodile using only emotional resilience… but the children were spotless and my white linen shirt remained gloriously clean.

Priorities. 😀
