Waringarri Aboriginal Arts is a living, growing art centre celebrating the uniqueness of Miriwoong cultural identity. Waringarri Aboriginal Arts was the first wholly Indigenous owned art centre established in Western Australia during the early 1980s and is one of the oldest continuously operating art centres in Australia. Located in Kununurra, at the heart of Miriwoong Country in the East Kimberle

y, Waringarri Arts was founded by senior artists and elders as a place of art and culture that would also support economic aspirations for artists and their community. Building on a timeless artistic tradition, Waringarri artists express the importance of Country and culture through contemporary art practices. The art centre supports more than 100 artists as painters, printmakers, wood carvers, boab engravers, sculptors, ceramic and textile artists. Waringarri Arts is a not-for-profit organisation, with all proceeds from art sales, art commissions and cultural tourism returned to the community to support the ongoing program of arts and cultural projects

Agnes Armstrong paints Ngamoowalem (Ivanhoe Ranges) and remembers her childhood years on Country, before Kununurra was built.

"In the old days people used to walk from Ivanhoe Station to Top Dam, following the Ord River. Lily Lagoon was a good camping spot. They had food here: turtle, fish and other bush tucker. The old road from Wyndham to Darwin went past here in the 50s and 60s before Kununurra was built. I grew up here. This was my home. We all camped here and there is a resort there now. We used to walk across the billabong to go to school."

✨ Congratulations to Dora Griffiths, whose solo exhibition ‘Stealing my Dad’ has opened at Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre (GYRACC) in Katherine N.T.

Dora’s beautiful and personal body of work, explores stories from her father’s early life and cultural knowledge he’s passed down to her.

The exhibition will be on display until 10th October, make sure to check it out!

🌟 Dora Griffiths' solo exhibition, ‘Stealing My Dad’, opens this Saturday 29 August at Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre (GYRACC) in Katherine, NT,. ‘Stealing My Dad’ is a new body of work that explores her father, Mr. Griffiths’ early life and oral narratives.

Join Dora at the exhibition opening night from 4.30pm, followed by Sunset Sounds, a free live music family event featuring Barunga and Beswick.
