Can you help us name this item?

We are looking for some help to name this item we have in our museum. We think it may have been used in early logging.

We would love to hear any suggestions or see any photos of how it was used.

Taabinga Cemetery Walking Tour 🪦

On Saturday the 16th of May, the Kingaroy Heritage Museum held a walking tour at the Taabinga Cemetery with a total of 45 people in attendance.

It was a lovely day learning about the symbolism and meaning behind certain headstones, as well as getting to know the history of some of our local pioneers and their contribution to our area.

Stories from the following were included: John Freshwater, Ann Pugh, Frederick (Freddie) Horne, George Venman, Archibald Blue, Auguste (Granny) Strohmeyer, Howard Goodger, Anna Desjardin, Frederick Spencer, Hans Larsen, Jens Christiansen, Helena Hurley, Emma Miller, Amy Stehbens, and John Willmer.

Many enjoyed the tour and would love to see this happen again.

Kingaroy Heritage Museum Open Day!! 🏛📜

The Kingaroy Heritage Museum held their second, and now annual, Open Day on Saturday the 21st of March.

Our volunteers worked hard organising the event which turned out to be a great success. There was a great turn out of locals and visitors coming in to see the Museum, Information Centre and Art Gallery and to shop at the stalls behind the centre. We even had a lovely visit from Deb Frecklington MP, Mayor Kathy Duff, Councillor Potter and Councillor Little.

The volunteers kept busy talking to all of our visitors about the history of the area and items in our museum. They had free peanut money boxes and stickers for everyone and also had a fun guessing game of peanuts in a bag. Our lucky adult winner who guessed the exact number, was given a lovely hamper supplied by the information centre and the two children who tied won a large koala toy each. The kids also had fun taking part in the peanut hunt and scavenger hunt.

Our stalls included Barambah Beekeepers, Fiery Fish Farm, Light Up Your World Candle Creations, QCWA, Playing with Glass, Taabinga Lions Sausage Sizzle and Amy’s Ice Cream & Coffee.

Everyone had a great time at the Open Day!! Thank you for all who could come and see the wonderful museum and thank you to all the volunteers who put in so much time and effort organising the event.

If you unfortunately missed the event, we hope to see you all next year!
