Congratulations Victoria Handley and Lucille Atkins on the successful Opening of their Feature Exhibition ‘Celebrating Mangroves’ Well attended by visitors, locals, family and friends.
🌻Artists Statements :
LUCILLE (Jeweller) : As a child I have strong memories of being left to play on the Iluka
mudflats while my mother went fishing. I certainly didn’t like the mud, the
smell, the midges and the mosquitoes.
Thank goodness that dislike of the gloomy mangroves has changed into awe
of this rich and diverse ecosystem; a system that is known as the lungs of the
earth and natural defender of coastal areas all around the world. My latest
jewellery collection has been inspired by the beauty and resilience of the
flowers, seeds and pods of the Clarence River mangrove trees.

VICTORIA (Visual Artist) : A keen kayaker for many years, I have
explored our coastal zones from the shorelines and
waterways. I have experienced the sublime beauty at high
tide, gliding silently beneath the ancient forest canopy of
mangroves in pristine waters of the Sandon River. I have
paddled and walked along the dank muddy banks of the
Brunswick river and its tributaries. This series of work
reflects my appreciation and insight into the often-
misunderstood hero of our shores

Tomorrow morning (Sunday 4th October) the annual Iluka Mullet Toss will commence at 9.30am on the Sports field. AT 9.30 will be Under 11s, followed by Teens, then Women and last will be Men, as would be gentlemanly protocol. Come along and have a toss, or cheer on your favorite. A fun activity for the Mermaid Festival run by The Iluka Emporium .

Come & play with us this Sunday 4th, 8am-1pm in Iluka!
We will have kid friendly arts & crafts as well as games; a huge interactive mermaid display for you to decorate, sensory sand art, a ‘faux-tobooth’ where you will be drawn as a mermaid & much more! ✨
