The Donnelly Verandah Residencies provide an opportunity for artists to immerse themselves in the unique Karri Forest at Donnelly River Village, where imposing old-growth Karri stands dominate a 1950s mill town.

This year the six artists who took part are:

Emily Barker , Amanda Benn .ar, Dominique Coiffait , Jessica Holliday , Bridget Seaton and Graham Stove

This exhibition brings together new work from their residencies, and the research and material explorations behind it.

Seedlings of Hope is a hopeful project. It is necessary to be hopeful.
Sometimes I feel that my hope is too small or diminished, but with the help of
others it grows, becomes larger and can flourish.
Trillion Trees Australia is both an organisation and a community that gives me
hope. Their mission is to “restore landscapes, rebuild habitat for wildlife and
empower people to take tangible action against the impacts of climate change”.

Closing 4pm Sunday 27 September 2026. Emily ten Raa, SEEDLINGS OF HOPE.

In the time she’s spent volunteering at Trillion Trees’ Hazelmere nursery, Emily ten Raa has made close to 200 drawings of the seedling species propagated there. These sketches inform the exhibition’s larger paintings, oil on salvaged jarrah/djarraly floorboards. Some stand alone; others are arranged side by side to form a single composition.

The sketches are botanical studies, each seedling’s form and structure keenly observed, while her paintings evolve into landscape, focusing on the ecosystem the seedlings grow into.
