From capturing likeness and light in his early realist works to embracing layered abstraction and mixed media, Michael Parker creates work that feels deeply intuitive, textured, and alive. Inspired by the quiet rhythms of regional Victoria, his practice explores memory, imperfection, and transformation through wax, paint, paper, reclaimed materials, and instinctive mark-making.
Rather than beginning with a fixed outcome, Parker allows each piece to evolve organically building, scraping back, reworking, and embracing what he calls the “happy accidents” that bring honesty and energy to the work. The result is art that carries traces of history, emotion, and place, inviting viewers to slow down, reflect, and find beauty in the imperfect.
