What a day we had last week at the 5th Annual Childers Heritage Day. There were events and open buildings all over town, not just at our Complex. Here are some highlights of our day.
We had several new displays on our grounds and unfortunately we had a cancellation from our blacksmith who was unwell. Uke and Me offered entertainment after the orchestra had finished. There were games for the kids (and adults) to play. This year was also a celebration of the 50th Year of our Society. - Looking forward to next year.

It was sad to hear of the passing of one of our long-time life members last week. Heather June Parry OAM was the IDHS treasurer and an active member for over 33 years as well as being an active member of many other societies and causes in Childers over her lifetime. Heather was a Childers local, attending school here and working in Childers all of her life. Including-
Librarian, Childers Library, Isis Shire Council (now Bundaberg Regional Council), 1998-2006.
Former Sunday School Teacher, Methodist Church Isis, (now Uniting Church).
Treasurer and active volunteer, Isis District Hospital Auxiliary.
Former Executive Committee Member and Treasurer, Isis Sub-Branch, Returned and Services League of Australia.
Isis Croquet Club • Member since 1984, Life Member in 2009, Treasurer since 2010.
Justice of the Peace, over 60 years.
Australia Day Citizen Award, Isis Shire Council, 2009.
Heather was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2023 for her services to the community in Isis District.
Heather passed away in Childers on 29 April 2026, Aged 84 years.
We here at the Historical Society have appreciated her contributions over the many years, both as an active member, contributing to our many activities and fundraising events, as well as her excellent, and often commended, abilities as our treasurer.
May she rest in peace.
