Today marks 1 week until the 5th Childers Heritage Day kicks off on Saturday 9th May, 2026 across Childers. Come celebrate 50 years of the Isis District Historical Society Inc, your hosts of this event. This event is part of the Australian Heritage Festival and the National Trust.

May 2nd & 3rd May is your last chance to see our Pop-up exhibition at the Childers Art Space (CHARTS) in the Palace Building. It is celebrating 50 years of ‘Preserving our Past for the Future’. A new exhibition will commence at 2pm on Heritage Day.

Be sure not to miss our Headliner Dan Davie – 2-times World Champion Blacksmith at the Childers Historical Complex in Taylor Street. Much More to see!!!

Heritage Day kicks with off at the Apple Tree Creek Markets from 7am, while all events and Open House in Childers start at 9am.

Refer to our 4-page program for more details. Please note the Childers C.W.A. will be serving Delicious Devonshire Teas from 9.30 until 1pm and not the times in our program. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Be sure to visit the Old Pharmacy Museum while attending Childers Heritage Day on May 9th. View the 120-year-old Cash Register. Check out all the beautiful glass jars and cabinets, wooden shelving and the tile floor.

On Tuesday this week we welcomed a group of Nursing Students and their Trainers from the Hervey Bay TAFE. There were great group to showcase our Museum too!!! A similar group will return in April 2026.

Childers' 10th Annual Read to me Day brought out lots of visitors to our Museum. Firstly there was Mayor Helen Blackburn (aka the Ringmaster) and Councillor Deb Keslake. Scott with Willow from Booyal Central State School. Scott with students from Cordalba State School. We had the enviable task of handing out 350 cookies to all the children attending today. They were all well received by the kids and we thank the Childers C.W.A. for creating them. We also had a visit from the Clown (aka Kim Green) from the Childers Library Circus. What a great display in the Library - here is a couple of pics in case you missed it. We had also had another visitor but no pic of BRC's Councillor for Heritage John Learmonth where we had a productive discussion. Congratulations to all contributors/organisers of Read to me Day - a wonderful initiative for our town.
