Gallery Bodalla features the works of two exceptional and much loved south coast artists Annie Franklin and Tanja Riese in the next exhibition red earth | salt water. The show commences Thursday 12 March and runs through to Sunday 12 April 2026 with opening drinks & artists’ talk on Saturday 14 March at 3pm, music by guitarist Geoffrey Potter. All are welcome. These exquisite, colourful and light filled paintings, are inspired by both the desert and the far south coast, with a deep love of place. I hope you can come along, Valerie.

Annie Franklin: The paintings in this exhibition have been made as a response to being immersed in landscape. The red earth collection was created over twelve months, after a two week painting trip to Mparntwe/Alice Springs. The desert landscape is visually and emotionally powerful and, although impossible to understand deeply from such a short visit, irresistible to an artist who loves colour. The salt water collection is from my home country on the south coast, painted mostly ‘en plein air’ during regular excursions with friends. It is a landscape that I have developed a deep connection to over 25 years, and it is also irresistible to an artist who loves colour - with a very different palette.

Tanja Riese: The practice of painting allows me to look deeply and linger on the curves, forms, colours (and smells) of the remnant wild places that can still be found. Be they in the scrub just off the road, beside a well-trodden path or tucked away in dense bushland, these places are uplifting, refreshing and filled with incredible beauty, for which I am grateful.

Beyond Appearances’, a warm and vibrant collection of oil paintings by Veronica O’Leary is featured next at Gallery Bodalla from Thursday 4 December through to Sunday 4 January. Veronica works in her Tathra studio painting still life compositions, interior studies (often of the artists own domestic environment) and gathered flamboyant bunches of flowers. These works are bold celebrations of colour and light, exuberant and celebratory of the simple beauties which go beyond appearances.

Gillian Wilde “Hung between Heaven and Life on Earth” continues until Sunday 17 March.
Inspired by her passion for the natural world, Gillian works sensitively in watercolour and collage creating portraits of the wonderful bird life we have in this area. She catches unusual angles and viewpoints that give fleeting yet instantly recognisable moments of delight. You’ll find some appealing characters amongst her works, some with attitude, some with cheekiness, and all with warmth.

Retrospect, an exceptional exhibition by Gordon Robinson and Chris Denton, is featured at Gallery Bodalla running through to 11 February. Some of Gordon's paintings are figurative, others are landscape oriented, some are both. They deal with a variety of reflections on nature, impermanence and vulnerability. ‘My works in this show are a mixed bag, some recent, some not so, some having evolved over a number of years. I’ve chosen work that hopefully plots a journey through those years along with my responses to some roller coaster times’, Gordon said.
2He is joined in this show by Chris Denton, a master printer, with a collection of prints and drawings including a body of work titled Mists. Chris explains ‘In this age of falsehood, conspiracy, lies and denial, a number of themes are intertwined in this work: the reality of a tree silhouetted against the mists of this confusion; the presence of some simple numerical and geometric symbols as an appeal to rational thought; and the use of the colour red as a warning.’
