A JOURNEY IN MINIATURE 🎨🖼

Presented by the Australian Society of Miniature Art, this exhibition brings together an extraordinary range of works that demonstrate the precision, skill and imagination demanded by the form. Working within the discipline of scale—where every detail is heightened and nothing can be overlooked, artists explore subjects limited only by their imagination, across painting, drawing, printmaking and mixed media.

A Journey in Miniature is showing at NERAM from Fri 1st May - Sun 7th June. For purchase enquires, visit the gallery or call (02) 6772 5255.

A huge thank you to everyone who braved the rain on Friday evening to join us for the opening of The Neighbour at the Gate and Pochettes en Fête! ✨

As part of the opening, we were fortunate to experience a beautiful smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country by Bruce Cohen, as well as an introduction to the incredible Neighbour at the Gate exhibition by National Art School Director, Dr Kristen Sharp.

We'd also like to say an extra special thank you to Bruce Cohen, the team at the National Art School, and all the NERAM staff and volunteers who worked to create such a successful evening.

The Neighbour at the Gate and Pochettes en Fête will be on at NERAM until the 26th of July.

In times of uncertainty and rapid change, art offers something profoundly important: a space to reflect, imagine, connect and find meaning together. The arts help us process the world around us, foster empathy and understanding, and create moments of beauty, joy and hope. They help us gather, and they help us process grief and uncertainty. They create meaning, and they create belonging.

Every day at NERAM, we see the impact of the arts firsthand. We see children discovering confidence, curiosity and self-expression through creative learning experiences. We see older members of our community finding connection, memory and renewed confidence through our art and dementia programs. We see artists sharing stories that challenge, inspire and encourage new ways of thinking. And we see people coming together through exhibitions, performances and conversations that foster belonging, understanding and a stronger sense of community.

It's thanks to the generosity of supporters like you that NERAM continues to play a vital role in the cultural life of the New England region. We remain deeply committed to ensuring that people of all ages and backgrounds can access meaningful creative experiences close to home and that the extraordinary talent, stories and creativity of our local communities is fostered to its highest potential.

Your support is essential in helping us continue this work. We invite you to make a tax-deductible donation to our 2026 Annual Appeal to ensure that NERAM remains a place of inspiration, reflection and community for the New England region.

Thank you sincerely for your generosity and belief in the value of the arts.

Donation can be made in person or via https://www.neram.com.au/support/annual-appeal-2026/.

HABITAT: CHRISTINE JAMES 🌳

'Habitat' looks at aspects of the upland wetland and Ramsar Listed reserve, Little Llangothlin, on Banbai Country. The artwork in this series forms a continuance of the concerns outlined in her previous works about other Australian wetlands and their catchments and explores Australia’s rapidly-disappearing biodiversity.

Habitat is on display at NERAM until Sunday 7th June. For purchase enquiries, please contact the gallery on (02) 6772 5255.

UPCOMING EXHIBITION: DRAWN FROM PAIN, WRITTEN FROM TRUTH

Drawn From Pain, Written from Truth brings together the powerful testimonies of Amera Ali and Suad Smo in an exhibition that speaks to survival, memory and resilience. Captured by ISIS as young girls during the Yezidi genocide, both artists draw on lived experience to share deeply personal accounts of displacement, violence and endurance.

Through text, Amera Ali reflects on trauma, survival and the difficult process of rebuilding a life after unimaginable loss, while Suad Smo’s artworks give visual form to grief, cultural memory and resilience. Together, their practices become acts of witness and resistance, ensuring stories too often silenced are seen and heard.

We would like to thank Armidale Sanctuary Humanitarian Settlement for proudly supporting this exhibition.

Drawn from Pain, Written from Truth will exhibit at NERAM from the 12th of June until the 19th of July.

The Neighbour at the Gate is a major group exhibition presented by National Art School, bringing together contemporary artworks that examine the enduring impact of immigration policies and colonial histories on First Nations and Asian Australian communities.

Across various mediums and perspectives, The Neighbour at the Gate charts the entangled legacies of exclusion and resilience, drawing vital parallels between the past and present, memory and nationhood.

We hope you can join us for an evening of connection, consideration, and cultural conversation.
