Threadlines 2 is a local textile exhibition that celebrates the use of the stitch through diverse creative applications and personal narratives.

Stitching has evolved with us as a species - from essential acts of making clothing, vessels and shelter - to more expressive designs and storytelling - and large scale installations around the world.

The simple act of a stitch really is amazing!

This exhibition of 16 artists closes Sunday. Itโ€™s going to be a beautiful few days before the transition into the winter months - so come and visit us - meet the artists - add to the stitching project on the front table - and be inspired to pick up a needle and thread and try something new this year!

Stitching is so much more than a belief that it's just 'women's work'. It's a statement of who we are. A threading of time, history, expression, collaboration, participation, experimentation and wellbeing. You could say, a return to self. It's a part of us :^)

Enormous thanks to the following artists who agreed to participate in this Surf Ciast Shire curated exhibition - shining a lens on what's possible and nurturing new threads of discussion.

Karryn Argus, Pattie Beerens, Mel Bowen, Maria Cook, Anne Davies, Julie Dyer, Barb Roe Hebb, Caroline Hawkins, Liz Hughes, Belinda McKenzie, Celia Meehan, Caryl Nowson, Veronica Phillips, Ellise Roberts, Vicki Rossiter, Marian Young.

Thu-Sun 11am-4pm

Threadlines 2 invites viewers to see textile practices in a new light โ€“ where stitching is alive with possibility, innovation and relevance.

The title is inspired by an exhibition we held in 2022 with Maria Cook, Barb Roe Hebb and Marian Young. It celebrated the legacy of thread in quilting, sewing, tufting and weaving.

Since then, an increasing number of artists have been exploring the expressive potential of thread and stitch - a momentum evident in exhibitions throughout Australia and internationally.

So what better time to expand the conversation locally, with a renewed focus.

Threadlines 2 - it's all about the stitch!

These 16 artists use creative stitching to craft delicate details and bold formations. The thread becomes a tool for storytelling and experimentation, through the personal, political and playfulness - where every stitch connects past practices with new creative futures.

How wonderful to see Elida on the front cover of the Geelong Advertiser GT magazine this week!

Make sure you pick up a copy to read the full article, then pop in to see this exquisite collection of paintings.

"...'I Get Bored' is the name of Elida Luciarte's new art exhibiton in Anglesea Art Space, however boredom is the furthest thng from Elida's mind when crafting her masterpieces. Instead she finds painting is something that calms her mind and leaves her feeling fulfilled.
..The exhibition captures all of Elida's dfferent styles - bright figures with Australian birds create a bold entrance, which are then followed by self portraits, landscapes and daydream-inspired
works.

The eclectic collection will easily bring smiles to viewers' faces as they move closer to each work to admire the detail present in each of them..."

The Weaverbirds โ€˜Weaving Storiesโ€™ exhibition closes Sunday!

Joy Beeby, Roe Clapham, Anne Davies, Kathy Harry, Sam Harry, Jane Honman,
Kathie Mitchell, Julie Skouden, Denise Stephens, Teฤ€hua.

Each year the Weaverbirds (thankfully!!) apply for an exhibition here at Anglesea Art space, and each year we are truly honored to include them in the program. Because we know how much commitment and heart they bring to the space. Incredibly talented women coming together - gathering around Joyโ€™s kitchen table, sharing and weaving stories with every thread and detail.

What we once called โ€˜basketโ€™ opens here into something much less containable, an expanded field of gestures, experiments and stories.

A big thank you to everyone who has visited and supported the group over the past couple of weeks, they've had amazing sales! And because they are all so prolific, thereโ€™s still many inspirational works looking for their new home! We invite you to pop in over this final weekend :^)

Open 10am-4pm.

'Connections' is a beautiful celebration of women's friendships, sense of community, sharing skills and stories, collaborating and of course creating - through a broad spectrum of materials, mediums and techniques.

With spun wool, the gathering and preparation of plants, looping, weaving, photography, the layering of wax, painting, moulding, printmaking, textiles, stitching, card making, collage, hand cut earrings and art books.

There's such an incredible positivity. It's light, and expressive, and shares so many different ways of how art can support us as individuals and as a collective.

This exhibition finishes on International Womenโ€™s Day - Sunday 8 March.

A perfect way to spend the long weekend, in appreciation of the extraordinary contribution these women make to their local communities and to each other.
