For this exhibition, Kunstraum Konrad brings together four artists of the same generation who have been friends for many years. Their artistic paths have repeatedly touched without converging, each developing an independent language and working method. In Puchberg, these four positions enter into relation with one another for the first time.

Sonia Leimer develops sculptures and installations in which architecture, urban space and technology meet references to space exploration. Christian Kosmas Mayer’s research-based works draw on natural science, cultural history and biology, exploring questions of life, memory and time. Nora Schultz understands sculpture as an open process, bringing together spatial, material and performative constellations with language, sound and found materials. In his paintings, Alexander Wolff investigates the possibilities of an abstract pictorial language, examining the conditions under which signs, forms and images come into being and are perceived.

With Kunstraum Konrad, a location outside the major art centres becomes the setting for this encounter, shifting the context in which the works are experienced. What new relationships emerge when works produced in urban contexts meet a rural setting? How does their perception change when their spatial and social conditions shift? And what perspectives can places beyond the metropolises offer for the production and presentation of contemporary art?

Meet the artist – Sonia Leimer

Sonia Leimer explores how our perception of the world is shaped by personal experience, history, and the media. Her work traces how rooms and objects carry the marks of the historical and social contexts in which they emerge. Moving between real locations, imaginary settings, and undefined dimensions, like those of cosmic galaxies, her sculptures, videos, and installations leave behind fragments, clues, and traces rather than a complete picture. Her works become visual enigmas that invite us to look, question, and reinterpret. Leimer has participated in the Venice Biennale (2026), Museion, Bozen (2025), and The Cosmic House, London (2024).

Meet the artist - Christian Kosmas Mayer

Christian Kosmas Mayer, who lives and works in Vienna, works across photography, sculpture, installation, and video, examining the stories societies tell about themselves and the roles that material objects and living organisms play within them. His practice sits at the intersection of technology, memory, and care, drawing on historical narratives and current research to critically examine the present while sketching out possible futures.

Together with Alexander Wolff, he co-edits the artist fanzine www.ztscrpt.net

Meet the artist - Nora Schultz

Through her installations and sculptures, often accompanied by videos, photographs, and performances, Nora Schultz explores how matter and language shape our relationship to the environment. Drawing on industrial materials, architectural structures, and recording systems, she transforms and reconfigures them in response to specific spaces. Her works create unstable configurations that challenge familiar ways of perceiving and experiencing space and materiality, often extending into and beyond the architecture of the exhibition venue. Recent exhibitions include Etablissement d’en Face, Brussels (2025), Kunsthalle Bremerhaven, Bremen (2024), and dépendance, Brussels (2023).

Meet the artist - Alexander Wolff

Alexander Wolff, who lives and works in Berlin, works across painting, wall painting, and printed matter, examining how images and meaning are constructed and perceived within their respective contexts. Combining paint with sewing, printing, dye and dirt, he builds compositions that move between flatness and depth, at times extending directly onto the surrounding architecture. His work has been exhibited at institutions including the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, the Kestnergesellschaft Hannover, at MUMOK Vienna, and the Wexner Center, Columbus OH.

Together with Christian Kosmas Mayer, he co-edits the artist fanzine www.ztscrpt.net.

For the first time in this constellation, Sonia Leimer , Christian Kosmas Mayer .kosmas.mayer, Nora Schultz and Alexander Wolff come together at Kunstraum Konrad in Puchberg.

Connected by a long-standing friendship, their artistic practices have developed independently across sculpture, installation, painting, sound, language, technology and research.

The exhibition brings these positions together in a rural setting, outside the major art centres, and explores how their work shifts when encountered in a new spatial and social context.

Zwei Wochen lang konnte man Media Esfarjani im Kunstraum Konrad bei der Arbeit beobachten, durchs Fenster, mitten im Prozess. Zum Abschluss ihrer Residency haben wir mit ihr über ihre Arbeit gesprochen: über persische Teppichmotive, Erinnerung und Zufall in der Malerei, und was Puchberg mit ihr gemacht hat.
