van.rensburg is an artist whose vivid colour and bold brushwork tell a story that runs deeper than face value. He is a master of acrylic, a medium he has honed over a lifetime to create captivating portfolios of landscapes, seascapes, and wildlife.

But Van Rensburg doesn't aim for a perfect realist interpretation. Instead, his work captures the essence of a scene, drawing on our conscious and unconscious perceptions of the world around us.

This unique approach has been referred to as the Earthscape, a term coined by a German art historian to describe his ability to blend abstract, non-figurative art with environmental consciousness.

By intertwining the literal of the African wilderness with abstract understandings, he goes beyond the real, giving expression to the continent's dynamic moods.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗗𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗴’𝘀 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆

Born in Cape Town in 1952, .van.rensburg artistic journey began early, with a lifelong affinity for nature.

Growing up on his family farm, he was captivated by the nuances found in nature- the wonder that existed beyond the simple aesthetics.

Starting with pencil drawings as an attempt to capture this wonder, he would receive formal training in graphic art, setting the stage for a successful career in the commercial arts.

𝗛𝗼𝘄𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿, 𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

So, in 1986, following his wife’s encouragement, he made the pivotal shift to full-time fine art, a decision that would echo through the art community.

Since that choice, his work has been acquired by multinational corporations like First National Bank and , and he was celebrated with the publication of his own coffee table book.

He has received international acclaim over the years, not just for his incredible artistic eye but for his willingness to give back to those artists wishing to walk in his steps.

Through workshops, tutorials and his generally nurturing attitude, Van Rensburg passes his incredible view of the world on to the next generation, willing them to see the heart of things.

It’s easy to appreciate the grand, gorgeous parts of the world. It takes a little more dedication to discover that appreciation for the simple things, though.

Thankfully, Katherine Wood has spent her life elevating the overlooked, creating a body of work that seeks to remind us of the complexities of the things we would consider simple.

Her work, largely focused on landscapes, depicts scenes of solitude and quiet calm, often featuring wide, open skies and a slathering of clouds.

At first glance, they present a sense of stillness, but the further one engages with her work, the more it begins to tell a story. Her scenes unfold with quiet richness through careful strokes, layering them with detail and contrast.

This level of detail is also carried into Katherine’s depiction of clouds, which often mirrors the landscape, blurring the line between sea and sky.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲

Born in Cape Town in 1975, Katherine's artistic path began with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Stellenbosch University.

Her quest for knowledge further led her to study in Edinburgh (1999) and Melbourne (2000), where she also earned diplomas in Interior and Graphic Design. This diverse educational background laid the groundwork for Katherine’s particular artistic perspective.

Part of that perspective was an acute understanding of marketing and entrepreneurship. In 2000, she founded "Klarity," a Cape Town studio and gallery dedicated to uplifting emerging artists, even curating a street show featuring over 100 talents!

As much as enjoyed highlighting these fresh voices, she still found herself compelled to create her own art. When demand for her particular perspective reached a fever pitch, Katherine decided to embrace her calling as a full-time artist.

Then, in 2012, her reach expanded to a global market. Katherine moved to Australia and began splitting her time between continents.

All the while, Katherine has been honing her craft, learning to look into the quiet places to seek out the minuscule signs of life. This perhaps comes as a result of Katherine’s history, which saw her on a constant search for the overlooked and unseen.
