EPSAC (ArtEC) is a non profit arts society and community art centre based in Port Elizabeth

EPSAC (ArtEC) is a arts and crafts society and non-profit organisation and community art centre, set up for the "advancement of the Visual Arts and Art Craftsmanship" by working to uplift the arts in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, helping artists and encouraging a public interest in the arts. We have undergone ambitious changes to reposition EPSAC as a society which is relevant to all members of the art and craft community, and to raise the standards of both, in PE and the rest of the Eastern Cape.

Meet resident artist Banele Njadayi

Born in Makhanda, Banele Njadayi is a South African visual artist based in Gqeberha whose practice centres on painting, charcoal drawings and mixed media. His work explores themes of origin, identity formation, memory, care, and resilience, drawing from lived experience and social observation. Central to his practice is an ongoing reflection on family, community, and the formative influence of motherhood in shaping personal and collective narratives.

Working primarily with oil paint, acrylic, collage, found/ discarded materials and textured surfaces, Njadayi uses materiality as a conceptual tool. Layering, gesture, and surface treatment function as visual archives, allowing emotional and historical weight to accumulate within the work. His practice is grounded in everyday realities and seeks to honour dignity, perseverance, and quiet strength.

Banele’s solo exhibition ‘Mayiye’ is currently on display at Art on Target Art on Target until Monday, 28 September at 16:00.

Catch his walkabout this Saturday,19 September at 12h00.

🎨 BRUSH HOUR – CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING!

A week ago we hosted our first Brush Hour at the ESPAC Building! There is something special about artists simply getting together, painting, chatting, sharing ideas and encouraging one another.

Ntombo picked up her brushes again after not painting for a whole year. Carmelita finally completed the windows of a street scene that had been bothering her for a long time. Karien finished a seascape that had been untouched for months, and Louisa was delighted to discover a new colour combination that has sparked fresh inspiration.

All in all, it was a morning very well spent — unfinished work moved forward, creative blocks were broken, and those creative juices started flowing again! 🖌️☕🎨

Our next Brush Hour is on Saturday, 19 September. We would love to see even more EPSAC artists and aspiring artists joining us. Bring along whatever you are working on — or something you haven’t touched for ages — and come create with us! RSVP with Karien Dutton

EPSAC, in collaboration with the Department of Visual Arts in the Faculty of Humanities, warmly invites you to the opening of our members’ exhibition.

This year’s exhibition explores the shifting boundary between the sacred and the profane—where divinity brushes against the earthly, and ritual intertwines with desire. Featuring a diverse range of practices, the show brings together bold and thoughtful works that navigate these blurred and nuanced terrains.

Join us for an evening of reflection, conversation, and encounter as we consider where these boundaries dissolve—and what emerges in their place.
