UMsunduzi Museum commemorates Nelson Mandela Day which is celebrated every year on 18th of July, which is the birthday of Nelson Mandela. It is a public awareness day that encourages people to spend 67 minutes doing something positive for others, symbolizing the 67 years Mandela dedicated to public service and the fight for justice. People can be innovative and do other works of kindness on that day and even beyond the date. The initiative is meant to spread kindness through to humanity. In South Africa, Mandela Day is marked by individuals, schools, businesses, charities, and communities through activities such as:
Volunteering at schools, hospitals, or shelters.
Donating food, clothing, or books.
Cleaning parks, beaches, or neighbourhoods.
Planting trees and community gardens.
Supporting elderly people, children, and vulnerable communities.
