Dioramas are a quintessential part of the museum experience at Karoo Origins - The Fossil Centre.
Built at life size, they invite visitors to imagine something extraordinary: ๐ธ๐ฉ๐ข๐ต ๐ฎ๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ต ๐ช๐ต ๐ฉ๐ข๐ท๐ฆ ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฏ ๐ญ๐ช๐ฌ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ค๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ด๐ฆ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ญ๐ด ๐ช๐ฏ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฐ 255 ๐ฎ๐ช๐ญ๐ญ๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐บ๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ๐ด ๐ข๐จ๐ฐ?
But these displays were never intended to be simply a collection of prehistoric animals standing still. ๐๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ๐ฎ ๐๐ฒ๐น๐น๐ ๐ฎ ๐๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐.
In this scene, the formidable gorgonopsian is on the hunt, while an Aulacephalodon makes its escape. Nearby, a group of Diictodons have been thoroughly disturbed by the commotion. The pareiasaur, seemingly unconcerned by all the drama, carries on munching on horsetails, while the little Procynosuchus gently raise their heads to see what all the fuss is about.

The animals were first carefully crafted in 3D software, before talented sculptor teams brought them into the physical world. The combination of computer-aided accuracy and beautiful hand-crafted detail has given the displays not only a remarkable sense of life, but also a little personality and humour.
