This Heritage Month, we’re inviting you to look closer.

Behind the doors of the Graaff-Reinet Museum are thousands of objects — each with a story to tell. But sometimes, you have to look very carefully to discover the story.

So, every week during Heritage Month, we’re going to give you a HERITAGE MYSTERY to solve. 🕵️‍♀️

Starting on Tuesday, 01 September, we’ll reveal a tiny glimpse of a fascinating museum artefact.

Then comes another clue…
👀 A little closer…
💡 Another hint…
🧐 And perhaps one final clue…

But we won't reveal the whole object until FRIDAY, when we unveil the artefact and tell you the story behind it!

💚 FRIENDS OF THE MUSEUM – IMPORTANT MEETING

A reminder that we are holding an important meeting on Thursday, 3 September 2026 at 17h30 at The Old Library to discuss the Friends of the Graaff-Reinet Museum Association.

Our aim is to establish a formal, active and vibrant Friends of the Museum Association — a group of people who are passionate about our heritage and want to play an active role in supporting and promoting the Museum.

At the meeting, we will:
🏛️ Discuss the role and activities of the Friends of the Museum
🤝 Establish a formal Friends of the Museum Association
💚 Explore practical ways in which Friends can support the Museum and its programmes
🌿 Encourage new members and greater community involvement
🗳️ Elect a committee consisting of a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary

Whether you have been a Friend for many years or are considering becoming involved for the first time, we need your ideas, enthusiasm and support.

Tickets for our Heritage Tea are selling fast! We have already sold 80 tickets since going on sale, so if you’ve been thinking about joining us, now is the time to book your seat!

We have a wonderful programme lined up for you this year, with delicious food, excellent entertainment and laughter.

There's still time to visit Gerrit van Wyk's Nostalgies Karoo exhibition at the Old Library!

The exhibition, featuring original paintings of historic buildings and Karoo landscapes, will be on display until the end of August. A selection of prints is also available for purchase.
